This should be because since FIAT has launched 500 india and as per its thread in TBHP that it is clicking, they are trying to repeat fiat's success here

As per the article in Pune Mirror, beetle will come via CBU route. Expect pricing to be in range of FIAT 500. They also mentioned about VW Golf to be brought.Did not mention about the launch period and price range

i just love the beetle so much! i think 15lk would be a good price for it, but anything above would make it little uncomfortable.
Expecting it anywhere below 14-15lk in India would be like living in wonderland!

Everybody like the bug in their garage. Especially the yellow one which Pavan has. They have to keep the pricing right. then it will be a run away hit in India for sure.

Finney,

Looking at the proposition of the price tag for the Fiat 500, i feel 13-14 lacs would not be insane for a VW Beetle.

Our club here in Bangalore has one 2005 VW Beetle which he's imported for around 36 lacs. and i often see a metallic blue and another white New Beetle running around Bangalore , nice car to drive, but priced equal to a CIVIC and VW Jetta becomes hard to digest for a 2 door small car with one helluva powerful engine.

I would still prefer if VW sold the older VW Beetle first here in India and then go into the latest Beetle selling.

Lets hope for the Best.

Snaronikar Thank you for the compliment. I indeed love my 1967 Beetle.

IMO 25L is a tad expensive for Beetle. Are you sure about this as i had heard somewhere it will be around 16k+.

Default Volkswagen Beetle in India Next Year

The European ‘people’s car’, Volkswagen Beetle will hit the Indian roads next year. “Volkswagen is known as Beetle in India. We have studied the market and feel that there is space for Beetle. We are planning to make it available in the middle of this year through imports,” said VW spokesperson. Hence the car will be launched in the year 2009.

“We are now finalising the details and we think there is a small yet definite market for the Beetle in India. But do not expect it to be cheap,” said a VW spokesperson. VW plans to launch the 1.9 litre diesel variant in India.

Beetle is the iconic car for the company and will be imported in India as Completely Built Unit or CBU. This means it will attract 100% import duty and will be quite expensive. While the pricing still remains to be decided, Kurt Rippholz, VW spokesperson, said VW will position the car as a lifestyle car in the niche segment in India.

It will compete against the Fiat 500, being a 2 door niche car.
And better looking IMO. Wonder what engine options they'll bring forth

Hmm. Seems a good move , if only the price it better .
Hope they make it at the new upcoming factory.
Will not have to pay the hefty price for a hatch then.

Very good decision , that they decided to sell it as CBU,and a NICHE COSTLY car.It should not be sold as a cheap car, but a small luxury item,so that all and sundry who dont know its ICONIC status drive it!!!

This means' All over India if anyone says VW the first thing that comes in anyones mind is a Beetle"

I dont really know if the new Beetle will be an eye candy as its erstwhile Classic counterpart.

If they sell the Classic version at even 7-8 lacs they will be loaded with bookings overnight
