And the magazine size would be small to save (make) money on paper too.

Default Top Gear's not Top Quality

Hi Guys

I hear a lot of enthusiasm about the impending arrival of Top Gear and not a lot for Car...

I think Car's a much better deal - Top Gear doesnt really come anywhere near it in terms of quality. For one, TG is biased. Badly biased when it comes to talking about 'British' automobiles (hmmm, how many of those are around that arent owned by the Yanks, the Germans, the Malaysians and recently the Chinese?...food for thought)

For another, TG is very snooty. They like to think that good cars are made only by the Europeans (excepting the French, because we're English) and are pretty condescending and patronising towards anything that isnt made in the United Nations of Europe.

Finally, coming from the Times Group I dont think we can expect any inclination towards unbiased reporting. You will see a lot of babes with their cars, plenty of Sachin Tendulkar and Aishwarya Rai and everything else that is Mumbai-centric.

The only think you can look forward to is some quaint brit humour, which might be appreciated by those who love the likes of PG Wodehouse (I do!).

Sigh! Anything for some unbiased reporting - I'm sick of yes-men too.

Cheers

Steer

Ah ok, that explains why I didn't find Top Gear that impressive!

For me, the best magazine of the lot is CAR, but the best value is Autocar, since it is a weekly.

cant wait to see what it brings up

competition from each of these mags will only improve the overall magazine scenario

Id second that, came to know about adil and overdrive parting ways a little over a month back, but since it was hush hush news nothing much to banter about. Anyways, i just love JC's columns... TG would be something to look forward too. CAR is good too, but lets say im biased... just because of JC and me being a wannabe Stig!

I do hope that all this competition enforces a culture where publications take better care of their subscribers. You would think that paying for the entire year in advance, and the subsequent loyalty would give you special treatment.

No ways, I always receive my subscribed copies 3 days after I see the same at news stands. And Overdrive never gives those extras (small booklets etc.) with the subscriber copies.

Just a thought: If Adil and gang are going to be running CAR, what can we expect from them....more of the same I presume.

I just hope the prices are not too high. ACI and OD have been increasing the price every six months! If TG and CAR are too expensive, it'll be difficult for me to get my hands on them. Worse, ACI and OD might also increase prices.
