Default New Generation Indigo to be launched in 18-24 months

While releasing Indica Vista, Tata Motors announced that the new generation Indigo will be launched within 18 to 24 months. The first generation Indigo was launched three years after Indica. This news was published in Financial Express this morning.

So we might see quardajet Indigo in two years from now. I guess that would be Indigo full size and not Indigo CS. Because Indigo CS is really Indica with a boot and does not need 18 months for development. Seems, no one is talking about if Indigo CS comes out with quadrajet. So Suzuki Desire has some more time to go at the current pricing and waiting list.

"We will be unveiling the crossover Safari and Sumo, which was displayed at the Auto Expo two years back," Tata Motors passenger cars division president Rajeev Dube said. "This will be followed by the next generation Indigo, probably on the same platform as the Indica," he said, though refusing to give any timeframe.
It took three years for first gen indigo because it was a later thought to add boot to V1 indica. Tata would have started developing V3 indica and indigo together. There is a spy pic too of the new indigo somewhere on the forum. Me thinks latest by first Q of 2009.

There is no point of discussing on the New Indigo when Tata itself has claimed there is no time frame for launch.

MODS can we have this thread closed ?

Does the report refer to the X-Over or something new? X-over was being touted as a lifestyle vehicle and wasn't expected to be positioned in between the Sumo and Safari.

Tata Motors plans to launch next gen Indigo, Safari

2008 The Hindu Business Line

New Delhi, Aug. 25 Tata Motors has chalked out plans to launch an array of next generation models for the domestic market, with simultaneous strategy to boost the presence of its newly acquired brand Land Rover in different parts of the country.

Mr Rajiv Dube, President, Passenger Cars business, Tata Motors, addressing a press conference for the launch of Indica Vista said, “Land Rover already has a dealership in Mumbai for the past 8-10 years. It is expanding the footprint in the country. Within the next one year, you could possibly see its presence growing.”

He said that officials of Jaguar-Land Rover (JLR) also indicated that they were keen to gain a strong foothold here.
For the domestic market, the company would be launching a next generation model of its mid-size sedan Indigo and its sports utility vehicle Safari on new platforms.

Mr Dube declined to reveal any time frame for the launch of the models. For the newly launched Indica Vista, the company would start exports in around six months time in the existing markets and newer markets.
The company’s cumulative passenger car sales up to July slumped 7 per cent at 50,740 units as compared to the utility vehicle category where it posted a 19 per cent growth at 15,685 units by marketing brands such as Sumo and Safari. The company attributed the drop in the passenger car sales mainly due to the customers awaiting the launch of the new Indica Vista.

When asked on the sales projection for the current fiscal, Mr Dube stated that we would stick to the same outlook he held at the beginning of the fiscal.

“Macro economic factors are toughening. In April, I estimated that the industry would grow in high single digit. I still hold the same. I don’t consider Nano in this as it is creating a different segment and hence should not be taken into account while projecting the industry numbers.”
While the company refrained from sharing company specific sales outlook, Mr Dube said that he hoped that the company’s performance would overtake the industry’s growth rate.
