Same way Octavia with 90bhp should be priced in the same 6-8 lac bracket, if we have to pay according to the bhp. for 6lacs we are not even getting dzire with 75bhp with limited features, and we expect Linea to be priced around 6lacs.
I feel that both Fiesta diesel and Verna diesel are overpriced.

Fiesta, Octavia and Swift Dzire are from different segments. Moreover they boast of excellent FE. If autocar India road test is anything to go by, Linea does not have such FE as the above three car have.

Fiesta motor is not as mass produced as the JTD of Linea ( used by Swift, Indica Vista, Fiat Palio ), so we can expect a lower price tag.

Now about performance. From all the three cars above, Linea will be the most expensive or will share the title with Octavia and it is indeed slower than Octavia, and Dzire. After paying close to Million rupees, the performance is not good. In approximately the same price range, Octavia has 1.9 motor that offers better acceleration.

The price is simply too high if kept above 8 lakhs. The package is not as complete as G3HC or SX4 or Verna diesel. The overall feel can be let down due to slow accelration times as compared to others available in the same market.

What I mean is that a car costing Rs. 10-12 lakh performs as good as or as bad as Dzire. In the similar price range we have Octavia that performs well. Also for around 9 lakh we have Verna diesel that is absolutely fantastic. So the chances of a prospective customer in Rs. 10-12 lakh budget range has Verna and Octavia to be looked at.
If Linea came out with 1.6 120 bhp, the price range of Rs. 10-12 lakh, the tables could turn. It would make Verna look overpriced and those who are ready to go for Verna mostly will stretch budget and go for Linea and from rather than Octavia, they might end up in Linea.

They can also target Laura ( setting benchmark for over pricing IMHO ) and Jetta with 1.9 JTD.

Really sad to note that such a good car's launch is getting delayed. but then i can understand FIAT INDIA's cautious approach - after all so much at stake.
a 1 month delay shud not be so bad after all - how many buy cars in DECEMBER ??

and with a slew of measures on the interest rate front, it would be wise to launch with a small delay so that financing (or lack of it ) does not affect the initial sales..

In someother thread it said that the Linea production has already started and now there is a delay in launch, now how would they sell a car manufactured in 2008 the next year 2009 (selling 2008 inventory)?

Delighted to know that the Linea's performance is bad against Dzire.

so you mean to say that all those Merc's, and BMW's should cost less than Dzire, fiesta, and Octaviaís as their FE is too low.

Octy is delivering 90bhp with that heavy 1.9Lt engine, where as Linea is able to deliver the same power with a smaller engine 1.3Lt which is more refined and silent.

If you consider the features, of Dzire, Fiesta, and Octy, am sure Lineaís would have more.

BTW, Linea is not going to cost 10-12 lacs as mentioned by you. Itís in the range of 7 to 9L.

IMO, the price should not be based only on the bhp or the acceleration. we also need to consider all other factors.

No offense to any one please.

I asked the same question to the dealer here. He said that the date of the car is decided by when they finish the paper work of paying tax to the govt, or something similar. Do not know how much of it is true.

During launch they would offer 2008 inventory thru Lucky Draw with huge discounts for first few lucky.

If that doesn't help, they will offer, buy 2009 get 2008 50% off.

Please don't mix your opinions with facts. Without driving the actual car how can you makes such statements?
As others have said before, there is lot more to a car than just the 0-100 acceleration or the bhp of the engine.

The article in the link looks dubious, go to the second page of the article, "Kicking off the proceedings would be Suzuki which will finally launch its new GS150R in the very important 150cc executive commuter motorcycle segment nationwide along with its GSX-1300R Hayabusa superbike and M1800R super-cruiser."

Sorry but according to everyone tracking Suzuki's Sb launch they have already been announced or am I mis-reading it.

Well Regarding the Overpriced factor IMO these cars qualify-
Starting from A-Star- atleast 40k less considering back seat prob and relatively no boot.
Vista Aura- Right priced as per features.
Swift Vdi - should be 20-30k less as except the gr8 engine car has basically no good features and boring interior.
Getz crdi - 30-40k less atleast.
I20- No confirmed details but as its a Hatch base should not be more than 5.6-6lac otherwise might not get many prospective buyers who prefer MUL and Tata.
Fabia- Grossly overpriced hatch. Should not be more than 6-6.5lac and that too cos of its good features.
Fiesta - Atleast 60-80k less as the car is very much overpriced.
ANHC- atleast 40-50k less (they now cant even boost of the famed Honda mileage which was there in NHC)
Linea- No official price yet however considering the 90bhp and the features its offering base model should not exceed 6.5-7lac.
Verna- atleast 50-60k less.
Octavia- Atleast a lac less considering Magnum gives more features and power.
Magnum- competitive price in its segment, however lost in sales due to poor marketing and non reliability of GM.
Civic- Atleast 40-50k less
Altis- Fairly priced in comparison with civic
Jetta and lAura- 2 overpriced in my opinion, should not be more than 14lac.
Accord- Considering the features it provides when you compare with Jetta and Laura it should be around 15lac mark.
Superb - should be at 18-19 lac mark.

Might have missed few cars but these are ones i can rem right now.

harry, you're seeing it from a Tata vehicle owner perspective. from that POV, pretty much everything else seems overpriced
