[quote=vijaythacker;1220944]Tata Nano will come in a total of three variants: Base, mid level CX and top end LX
The car meets all the safety criteria as per Indian standards and will be able to seat 4 people comfortably
Boot Capacity: 80 Litres, 500 Litres (with rear seats folded)

Has it passed the roll-over tests?..or are there any in India?
I thought Boot was in front, so how can boot space increase with rear seats folded??

Thats a really good news. The petrol variant gives around 25KMPL so the with the diesel powerplant shall we expect 30kmpl, damn!! that makes many of the bikes look ridiculous, if FE is taken into account.

Lombardini / Greeves cotton were developiong CRDi engines back in 2005, I am not sure they have developed it by now and what size they are. Normally they vary between 350cc and 500cc. BTW, they do have DI engines in the market by now though.

yes the diesel engine has undergone many trials and also many corrections are going on. the diesel gives 32 KMPL average. a bit noisy but well contended.

1.6 lakhs for the nano top end variant ex showroom/dealer. Wouldnt the On road price lean towards 2 lakhs.

"
Tata Motors has asked vendors to be prepared to supply parts for the Tata Nano diesel six months from now. That is say, August-September 2009. From then, give it some time for Tata to finish all the testing required, mid-2010 launch seems quite feasible.
Rs 2 lakh is the estimated Tata Nano diesel price. This would change based on many factors such as input costs, economy, duties and the like. But at two lakhs, a diesel Nano definitely seems worth it. By the launch date, the customers also would have got used to seeing Nano cars around, and would have a clear idea about the features, power and practicality of the car.
The top end petrol Nano is expected to be priced at Rs 1.6 lakhs. Add another Rs 40,000 to that, you can buy a diesel Nano."

I heard in news channel booking is open in TATA showrooms and few SBI branches only for 2 weeks after the launch. Around 6 lacs bookings expected and initial deposit to book Nano is 70,000/-

Car will hit roads only by July. If you ask me this is wrong strategy. Anyway its delayed already. So further delay would have not hurt. If TATA would have launched Nano by 2009 year end and start delivery by early 2010 it would have made better sense in business.

I think Nano is being launched today because there is competition car coming in near future, so Nano don't wanted to loose the first position.

Typical BBC stiff upper lip anyway. When it came to the reference to the move to Gujarat, I instinctively expected the built in cut&paste machine in BBC to kick in and refer to the "communal violence" which is mandatory inclusion for them.

Default price "protected" for only first 100,000 cars

Ratan Tata, according to ET, said that the 1L price is protected for first 1L cars, possibly meaning the ex-showroom of the base version is only introductory.

The booking dates were announced from 9-23rd April.
