Default More on registeration rules

Hi guys,
Need some info about registeration rules. Suppose i am residing in Punjab, and i buy a car from a karnataka guy which is registered in KAR. Now, i have address proof of punjab, so do i get the car to my home state and then get it registered there, or first i have to get owner name changed in Karnataka RTO and then re register in punjab?

well when you buy an out of state vehicle you need to get aa NOC from that state's rto where it is registered then you got to take the necessary forms and the NOC and can register it in your state where you reside. you have to pay the necessary taxes and charges.

khanak not too sure whether they are embassy cars or self drive taxis...need to check up on it.

ICE, the question is if I buy a Karnataka vehicle and want to take it to Delhi, then do I first get the vehicle transferred to my name in Karnataka and then take it to Delhi with NOC etc. OR should I take the vehicle to Delhi and get it registered and transferred to may name simultaneously...

Well commercial vehicle number plates have to be black on yellow background and private vehicles are black on white background. Previously it used to be yellow letters on black ground and white letters on black background respectively..

I am not sure if that Esteem was a commercial vehicle and had not renewed the number plate. The law had changed a few years back though...

Yellow letters on a black background = cars leased for self drive / taxis

Black letters on yellow background = public transport/ public hire taxi's where only professional drivers (ha!- supposed to take medical proficiency tests etc) can drive

Unfortunately transport is a state subject and all states operate on the whims and fancies of the politicians and their cronies - it is just a money looting enterprise of the politicians, by the politicians and for the politicians.

Even if it is a state subject, I still dont understand why the centre cannot compile a list of all vehicles in one central database to make it transparent. Let the owner's name and taxes paid be made public. Makes it easy to have interstate transfers done with no loss of revenue and hassel free. Let the states handle the transaction but also have all of it available online on the central list.

Maybe we'll need a Anna Hazare to make it happen.
