im sorry if i am repeating this information, but i am entering this discussion a bit late.

this is an inside scoop from a friend over at bosch. the chevrolet beat is going to have a 924cc common rail diesel engine, this engine has returned a stunning mileage of 21 kmpl during extreme brake testing by bosch.

That has already been revealed by Autocar India:

However, the M300’s trump card that is yet-to-be-seen is the 936cc three-cylinder diesel engine. Autocar India first broke the news of this brand-new motor in the July 2007 issue when it was still in its development stage. This three-cylinder diesel is essentially the 1.3-litre Multi-jet with one cylinder chopped off. It’s not that simple though and an engineering source informed us that the entire block needed to be stiffened and counter-balancer shafts added to the crank to iron out the inherent imbalance of a three-cylinder motor. The same source confirmed that the power and torque figures can safely be estimated to be 75 percent of the Fiat engine. Hence, expect this sub-1-litre diesel to produce 57bhp and 14.52kgm of torque, which should be sufficient for a car weighing under a tonne.

Looks like GM is not doing that bad ...yes there start was not good but they are picking up.

General Motors’ small car Chevrolet Spark reported an increase of over two-fold in its sales, at 4,706 units – which is also the highest sales since the Chevrolet Spark was launched.

The company’s sales in September 2009 consisted of 1,329 numbers of the multi-utility vehicle Chevrolet Tavera; 424 units of the sedan Chevrolet Aveo; 753 units of the hatchback Aveo U-Va; 123 numbers of Chevrolet Captiva; as well as 319 units of the luxury sedan Chevrolet Optra.
