Chennai Intl. Auto Show - highlights - Team-BHP

I dropped by the Chennai Trade Center to check out the Auto Show this afternoon and here are some of the highlights from the show. The best part of this week is the almost empty roads in Chennai due to the harvest festival holidays and i had to take a photo of the road conditions here(1st photo). Unbelievable!. I wish more manufacturers participated at the show and notable among the absentees were local manufacturers TVS, FORD , MITSUBISHI and only a single display by HYUNDAI(i20). I do however give the show a 6/10 and say it is worth a visit. And the coffee at the Sri Krishna stall is to die for. The last pic is of the Passat interior.

Round two of show highlight pics. I still cannot understand why there was almost no local participation(save for the lone i20) at a Chennai Auto Show!.I still cannot reconcile myself to the Xylo radiator grille. I tried.

Round three of highlight pics. To me the highlight of the show is the modded flaming red 1961 Amby and the yellow Standard Super10 i spotted in the parking lot, both cars lovingly maintained by their original owners. There were some antique cars too and i'm sure there will be more exhibits over the weekend,as someone mentioned, so please add your pics to this thread. That's it from me, for now.

Nice work Nickatnite.

I think it was a better show compared to the one in Bangalore.In Bangalore most of the cars on display were locked and we were not allowed to feel the interiors of the cars.

I think this is the first time an auto-expo is being held in the southern states, and keeping in mind the recession factor, I would say both the show have done reasonably well.

I think it is an early Skoda roadster, maybe the Popular.

The owner who was present when i took the pics of the Skoda told me the car is a 1938 Tourer with a 4-speed, 4-cyl 10bhp engine in it. He didn't venture any further info and the same was on the board when i was there yesterday.

P.S. None of the Chennai based auto manufacturers Ford, Mitsubishi, BMW, TVS and Hyundai(save for one i20) were present at the show. Are they taking local consumers for granted?.
