So how much do you think people would be willing to pay for a fully loaded Nano. Lets say it comes with CVT/ AT, power windows, Power steering, Air conditioner, alloy wheels?
How much above this one would they pay for one that includes ABS & airbags as well?

I feel if they provide all features you listed, it would change definition of Nano. If they provide all of the above minimum would be 1.2 lakh increment in its base price which goes well over 2 lakh. But still it would be with in reach.

Rough Estimate

ABS & Airbags - 35 K

It is rough guess. Please correct.

I heard a friend mention that MSIL reduced prices on the M800 - she read it on TOI-Chennai, but not sure if it was today's paper or yesterday's. Anyone knows about this ? Looks like the Nano is already giving MSIL the jeebies.

EDIT : Sorry, think it was wrong info - not a MSIL press release, but some dealer advt. in the paper.

True, I guess that CVT, ABS, airbags etc. would put it in a much higher price braket. The question is - would someone pay Alto money for what will be perceived as the world's 'cheapest' car, even if it gives him much better features?

Perhaps, just a version with more creature comforts like AC, power windows and steering would be a better bet. Alloys and upholstery could always be an after market fitment.

Oh yes, especially if you have ever driven a car with PS. And mainly at low speeds, while reversing etc. Thats my observation with an M800 - must apply to the Nano as well since I guess it would weigh almost the same.

Well, you wouldn't really "need" it, but it would make life easier. Like SB said, would definitely be helpful during parking, slow speed maneuvering, reversing etc.
Thing is, on this car, people would probably be willing to forego it, so I doubt we'll see a version with say only Power windows and power steering as incremental benifits. Unles the cost differential is low, I would imagine several people would just get the power windows fitted as an accessory and live without the power steering.

The power steering would probably be part of a more fully loaded version, say with AC as well, since thats not something that can be easily fitted later on

I would rather plonk the 1 lakh+ on a decent bike. No Nano for me.

Whoever said cheapest in price also means cheap in comfort, FE and design?

So Nanoisation of the nation will begin bringing a sea change on our roads and our middle class' outlook on motorised things, that move on the roads.
-The driver's seat will be charged as there's a battery below it.
-There's a stepney under the bonnet and not an engine.
-And fitting high wattage Blaupunkt and JBL music systems may stall the powerless engine.
-A Maruti 800 will be considered a larger car from March 2009 onwards.
-Maybe the Nanos will cling on to the radiators of Endeavours, Scorpios and Safaris, where flies and flying insects used to be stuck once upon a time!

Default Auto rickshaws liberated

Well, it looks like the Auto rickshaws will get a reprieve and no longer be the scourge of the roads. Now all the Nanos would need is a black top half since they already come in yellow.

It doesn't. But the general perception will be that. A lot of people prefer a low spec version of a car in a higher segment than a top of the line one in a lower segment.

My question is regarding a customer who has the budget for an Alto or 800 (I dont know the exact price - just approximating).
Will he buy a Nano (which will have the 'cheapest car' tag associated with it) even though it offers him more features?

I didn't mention comfort , FE or design!!
