FWIW, I met some folks from M&M when I was @ Sireesh and they too said that W201 will have exclusive showrooms + service

Was talking to a current dealer, he is getting the W201 and no exclusivity about it, the training for service/workshop guys is starting next week so it seems the September launch looks highly probable.

The car apparently has 18-20 computers on board and is sohisticated for M&M. So, lot of training and niche segmentation is expected even for its maintenance staff apart from sales team.

Good in a way ! this was a major grouse among the Aria owners or prospective buyers that they had to share the same A$$ as the ones used by Indica cab drivers as well. I guess this facility will be used by Ssangyong as well, for all premium cars from M&M. Tata could take a cue from this which can boost the sales of Aria too. Premium customers should be treated better.

Now that's a great piece of news about the training. Trainings are given when the vehicle is all set to launch. So as some one said a Sep 26 launch looks like highly probable.

I have personally seen the rear trans-axle subassly (Carrier hsg assly!) being productionised. Quantities now are low but will be ramped up shortly. The rear axle is independant like the GV & Captivia though I have not seen the complete assly together. So 4wd is very much a part of the launch. Possibly the lower versions will be 4x2.

Scorpio, Xylo & Virgo. Sure sounds good. Plus this is M&Ms maiden attempt at a front wheel drive crossover - so its virgin territory in that respect. What ever the name - one can probably bet that its something that ends with 'o' ..

The tyre profile looks very low for an suv, should be less than 230, will it be same after production?

Mahindra just announced the official name for the global SUV W201. They've named it Mahindra XUV 5OO.
Will be launched before end of 2011. They were very vague on pricing but said it will be slotted above the scorpio and below the Fortuner. Both 4x2 and 4x4 versions will be available at launch.

At launch, Pawan Goenka called it the "5-Oh-Oh" (5OO) as opposed to 500 (5-hundred). Probably to continue the tradition of naming new Mahindra consumer vehicles ending with an "o".
