If FIAT does get the 1.4 Tjet and 1.9 MJD for Linea in India, then we would loose most of the reason for all the comparisons with ANHC and Linea, Verna and Linea etc. No gripe about lack of performance then..

It might probably be Chevy Cruze and Linea... interesting to even think...

Amen!

P.S.: I am hoping that FIAT will set right the interior quality with time, maybe a year should fix it. Again it is only maybe and wishful thinking.

dealers are aware of the larger engined linea. one guy in the dealership told me it will be launched in feb 2010 with a 150bhp engine. so i guess its the 1.9 tuned for 150 bhp.

I was at HariPrasad Auto, which used to be a Fiat authorized service center. It even is, but is not listed on Fiat website. The owner also told me that the Linea would come with a 1.9 JTD. To me, it seems logical, as Fiat would be using the same block that they used in erstwhile Palio D. Thereby, they can price it better.

If this is indeed true then its competing with cruze/civic/altis/ segment
Even if they price it 10, 10.5 lac its a hell of a deal IMO.

I believe Fiat had launched a new series of Multijet engines that are more efficient and less polluting, meeting even Euro5 norms. The 1.6L 16v engine churning out 105bhp / 29kgm torque in normal state of tune and 120bhp / 32kgm with VGT, seem to be a perfect fit for the linea. Fiat should bring this new series only in the first place, rather than launch later to meet Bharat Stage V norms in the future. Don't know what the cost factor is for them - could be possible that the 1.9 makes more sense for then keeping in mind the current manufacturing facility. But with the 1.9L mill, the trump card of the Linea - it's price - might be very dicey affair and Fiat will end up messing things up.

New FIAT 1.6 Multijet Under 120g/km

Palio D 1.9 engine was a non turbo engine making less bhp than a 1.3 MJD FGT engine. Makes no sense to use it in Linea.

Totally agree, why not keep 3 diesel engine options ?? 1.3, 1.6 & 1.9 - it can compete with Verna 's , Optra's and Cruze's! 1.6 MJD would be a better bet IMO.

I believe that would lower the car's image significantly.

Most of the pretentious junta buying cars above 10 lacs would be put off if a poorer twin was sold with the same look but a slower train.

Not the engine, but the block. If I remember correctly, the 1.9 JTD is even today using the same block that the erstwhile 1.9 Palio D used.

Fiat India had initially started with importing that block, but later on, was producing it in India locally. That means, they can probably do it cheaper even today.

Karan - how expensive can it be? a 1.9 block was used in Palio before so i don't think 1.3->1.6->1.9 would be anything drastic.

From the reviews (and driving the Linea) the VGT does introduce some turbolag. If the non VGT version improves low rpm responses that would be a better bet. I believe the regular 1.6 comes in 105 bhp and the VGT versions come in 120 and 150 bhps.

With the 1.6, 100+ bhp, 3 seconds off the ton mark and a better trim at 1L extra would make this already VFM car an extra ordinary car. I would still not blame Fiat for bringing the 1.3 first - it needed the sales.

Well no one's blaming Fiat for the 1.3 MJD , its just that with launch of Manza with same engine i feel Fiat would be better off with 2 power plants in diesel and petrol . If i get better interiors and 1.6 MJD for say 1 lac more i surely wouldnt mind putting my money on it!!

cant agree more on that. I think Fiat is suicidal in letting Manza ~ 2 L cheaper with the same engines and features.

November edition of AutoCar India has printed that Fiat is coming with a 1.4 T-Jet petrol motor making 118bhp and also confirmed that there is NO diesel 1.6 coming until the end of next year [so as to not spifflicate the sales of 1.4 T-Jet].

Wonder why we keep expecting variants that are not going to come immediately and who got confirmation to have the title of 1.6 Linea coming soon.. And then blame Fiat for not bringing models they weren't even planning for.

Good news is aspirants who'd like to buy the Linea but hesitated for lack of petrol power, now have a reason to rejoice and get their cheque books ready.

So it seems quite likely that the 1.4 T-jet will be available in the Linea, and sooner rather than later.

Is there any chance of the same 1.4 T-jet making it into the Grande Punto too?
