In the list 1368 cc 16 v engine (used in linea now) also is not there. The salesman was positive that it is petrol. Can Sid or anybody else throw some light on this?

It could be the existing 1.6 monster that does duty on Palio 1.6/GTX/S10. May be few tweaks here n there. The worth waiting is 1.6 MJD though.

Exactly even I was told by one of my friends who is closely related to FIAT that the 1.6 MJD is on cards but then at the launch of Punto, the dealer told me 1.9 MJD auto tranny in Linea is on cards.

I think the 1.6 is not coming in anytime, boys. The CEO has just confirmed that. Read about it here.

Right. So the 1.6 might be the Petrol machine. Whatever it is. Performance based cars are only taken by enthusiasts. A company should take care of the masses so to be in a position to release sporty variants afterwards.

Mods, I think this thread can be locked now. The CEO himself has stated that the engine is not coming to India. Now, all we'll see here is speculation by a lot of people.

Oh No! I have been duped. I thought Fiat thought Indian market was not suitable for the 1.6 engine in Linea (i read it in an interview with fiat india boss on team bhp itself!).

i am now stuck with the 1.3.

CEO himself stated that "1.6 MJD isnt a fiat preferred engine", if it comes in and gets positive reviews on tbhp and a good FE then i may be tempted to sell my Linea 1.4 and Santro and get a 1.6 MJD. 120bhp will be awesome for Linea.

Lets see, if it does happens then its bad for 1.3MJD owners. Anyways it will be atleast a lakh costlier than 1.3. Launching a new engine within a year of launch doesnt makes sense to me atleast. Seems they are worried by sub 1000 nos for Linea and know that 1.6MJD could win a lot of sales as engine is the only -ve of Linea left now.

Hey just check by calling FIAT Toll Free No.
They himself told that Fiat Linea 1.6 MJD will be launched in last qtr this year.
I called them and got this info.
Seems TATA CSM were gone for training.But CSM,Chennai is not ready to divulge the details.
But i am squeezing him to get the info.

I wonder if Fiat would try a 1.6 MJD engine into the Linea making it a first for the whole world? I haven't seen a 1.6 MJD option in any of the existing Fiat Linea's sold worldwide. Correct me if I am wrong.

At the same time, R&D is not done in India. They just import models and test it under Indian conditions.
