Default The most silent diesel sedan (under 12 lac category)

Well a lot of talk about noisy diesel engines goes around. But with the growth of new technologies like PD/CRDI etc., diesel engines are coming closer to their petrol counterparts in terms of engine refinement...
Which one of the above (i have ommitted Merc. here.. just wanted something majority of us can afford..) do you think has the most silent diesel engine, and sounds almost a petrol inside.

I'd say the Skoda is the most silent out of your list........which is quite extreme if imo coz most of these cars like the lancer D etc r damn loud....accent CRDI is pretty silent too...Endeavour too once it warms up is pretty silent.

I found that the Petra was rather quiet... Anyway, I trust Fiats diesel tech. over almost every other company...

Fiat is good in terms of Technolgy.. There is no Doubt in that.. If you take the price to value ratio ..fiat is ahead of all of them

Octavia here is the king for sure. Ya Indigo's are silent but no competition to the Octy. They come close to the Hyundai though.

Usually the direct injection diesels are louder than their IDI counterparts.........but its also a fact that turbodiesels are quieter than NA types....so, the quietest is going to be an IDI turbo..then its the Indigo turbointercooler....or a Safari.........this is just theory..I'll take a Octy anyday...I love that gruff sound of that engine...its the sound or T.O.R.Q.U.E.

Thumbs up Skoda Skoda Skoda Skoda...........

oh man the octy ANYTIME OF THE DAY OR NIGHT.... the torque you get in that car is absolutely addictive.... drive any other diesel in that price range(or any other according to me) and your sure to be disappointed...

Has to be the 1.9TDi, and the indigo. The CRDi is noisy...could do with better insulation. But then again for a direct injection motor its pretty good.

The Octavia and Indigo diesel are pretty much on par, I should say. Just that I'm more biased towards the Octy.

The 1.9Tdi in the Octy isn't a Pumpe-Deuse engine, right? Atleast the one planted in Indian cars right?

The 2.0L Elantra CRDi isnt bad too, the Accent's is noisy and harsh, since it's a 3-pot, but gets better when it warms up.
