I'll take the josh machine, Ikon 1.6.
For me, things like handling, steering feel and quick direction changes are more exciting than outright horsepower. Plus the ROCAM's got the torque and drivability for real world driving.

Fiat Petra 1.6 Two reasons - 1) I own one 2) I like the idea of a boot. Otherwise, yeah the Palio GTX rocks.

Palio GTX for me. India's first true hot hatch!

I would have chosen the Fusion if it was a lakh or so cheaper, though.

well i voted baleno & put my money where my mouth is by buying one!!!!!
I did consider all the others,
Very fond of the Ikno & the Palio, But the palio drinks like a fish esp when modded,
i know coz i once got an avg of 2.5!!!!!!!!!1 on the expressway, even had to leave
the expway & refill at Lonavla coz i was so low on gas!!

Ikon too, great as a drivers car, but as a mid size sedan it fails to do the job,
simply by not being mid size, and i found it a bit unnerving under hard braking at high speed, the front end seemed a bit skittish.

And finally for the price that the baleno Lxi is at now, its an untouchable deal,
even after you spring the cash for the Wheels & tyres.

The GTX for me too. I own a ikon 1.6 too, but i feel the brakes on my ikon are a big let down. It feels so un capable of hauling the car down from the speeds its capable of. The GTX too has poor brake feel, but the brakes as such are fine.

Guys what do you expect from a car for meant for the petro heads? A ride quality like the optra? The GTX has got stiffer suspension than the petra. It makes for a lot of fun while driving that is matched only by the OHC IMHO.

The FE part of the palio is something of concern to many. I have been driving the car for the past 3 years and the average in the city with the AC is around 12kmpl. When the car was new i got 9-10 kmpl. But as the engine has run in the FE has increased. On the highway i get 15-18kmpl. Way better than my ikon 1.6

Optra 1.6 for e as well.. since power is nothing without control and optra is the fastest or aint it ?? but most stable IMHO..

I see GTX is leading in the poll. However, does an out of production car qualify to be on this poll? It is not like somebody can buy it based on this poll. It also begs the question why VTEC is also not part of the poll choices. I am sure it would have given some serious competition to GTX.

@ Samurai: The poll is for 1600 cc cars The VTEC being 1500 cc does not qualify to be in this poll

@samurai : As the news goes, Palio 1.6 is back in market. If that is still far, you can have Petra

I prefer Petra over GTX, because it offers better ride without losing handling. It has a boot, baby!

GTX it is for me! I am so happy that it is back. I will definitely plan for it next year. So bad the 1.2 has so less power and it feels sluggish.

Well, looking at the list I had only two cars in mind GTX and Optra.
And I chose Optra, looks good and performs well also.
GTX is a good car but this is what tempted me to go towards Optra.

My vote goes to the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. The Suzuki engine under the hood is reason enough.

Its got to be Petra EL, simply because of it bhp and the 500 litre boot which can get extended by folding th rear seats.
