Guys,
I don't think there is a thread available on this forum on when car manufacturers released their cars in India. Below is some statistical information that has approximate values. The point to note is that the number of models released post y2k far exceeds those in the period of 5 decades before it. This, of course, is directly attributable to the tight regulations the Government had in those days.

I'd appreciate corrections and additions to this information. I guess all one needs to do is to use the quote function and make his corrections or additions.

Man, going through that list is like taking a walk down memory lane. So many memories with so many cars :)

Yup, I had no work at all today, and I was remembering my dad, who had a passion for cars. I was motivated to creating this list thereafter, purely based on my memory.
If my dad were alive, he'd have added plenty of info to this thread--even cars of the pre-independence era, as he was the son of an automobile dealer, and himself a scooter dealer.

Thanks to all those who have responded. Please do feel free update the year of release of many cars that I've merely mentioned as '1980s' or '1990s'.

Maruthi Suzuki Esteem (Carb) was launched in 1993 ! I have a copy of Auto India magazine carrying out a road test on it that time.

Sienna Weekend, Palio Adventure, Indigo Marina, Skoda Octavia Combi. Yeah I like wagons!
