considering their success with the Figo - they have proven that they are good at value engineering and providing a decent bang for the buck.
Shankar,
If Ford offers this even in the 9-10 lakh bracket, people would queue in to grab this.
I'd be ok to pay 10 lakhs for a decent SUV but dont like what I currently see in the market

Dacia Duster is coming most likely in 2012 and fellow TBHP members have already seen it being tested (http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/intern...-duster-3.html).

Maruti is planning to come out with a four door small SUV based on the lines of Jimny in the next two years (The Hindu Business Line : Mini-SUV to lead Maruti's new launches over next 2 years)

If we believe Autocar's story on Mahindra's future lineup, they are planning sub 4 metre SUV twins S101 & S102, which are now moving towards the prototype stage. (SCOOP! Mahindra)

If we want to include the sub 4 metre Xylo 5 seater in the list, members already have seen the test mules. Reports suggest that Mahindra is waiting for budget announcements and will launch it accordingly later this year. (http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...seater-11.html)

If ever we were to get a sub 7 lac, mass market SUV, it would have to come from Mahindra. The small SUV from M&M sounds promising but it remains to be seen if M&M can deliver quality and finish at that price point.

The Dacia Duster would most likely be priced in the 8-10 lac price range. Just how heavy is this vehicle and is the 1.5 Renault DCi unit adequate for its weight?

MSIL have not ventured into this segment as yet. (The Gypsy is not exactly a daily use SUV) Would it be too much to ask for an all-wheel drive version of the SX4 hatch with the updated MJD unit at an affordable price? Agreed, it would not be a mass market vehicle but it would sit perfectly with the 'Men are Back' SX4 theme and maybe help sell more of the regular SX4s.

How about a stylish 2 door Mahindra Bolero on the same lines of the Tata Sierra.

Dacia/Renault Duster may well be a kind of answer to this dream but at the higher end of the spectrum. also, it could seriously be just the right time for chevy to consider bringing in the facelifted subaru forester or the outback with a nice diesel engine. The timing for this would now be right. When the poor forester was first launched in 2002 2003 it was expensive for a petrol 4Wd.. Today it would sell very well in a diesel avatar at that price

The forrester in its current gen looks like any other SUV,however in its earlier generations it really looked good with that station wagon look albeit with a much more rugged mechanicals.

Oh and the frameless doors

going the way things are in terms of pricing - i guess only M&M or Maruti can come close to this pricing.

If MSIL would seriously consider bringing the Jimny with the same DDIS as in the Swift, I am sure there are lots of consumers out there (especially youngsters), who will opt for it. It will lend significant charge to the segment that Premier Rio tried to open up.

Being a Suzuki derivative at least one wont have quibbles about fit and finish quality and overall reliability as well as ease of service/ maintenance.

Mahindra should build small SUV on Bolero platform. It is well proven vehicle over years. They need to just modify the looks part. Engine, chasis can remain same. Engine should be refined more for sure. Make it 5 seater with ample space for luggage. Make interiors good. Put some good accessories like Airbags, ABS & you are ready to go.

Sure Mahindra can do it at approx price of 7-8 Lacs. But surely it can be a hit vehicle with Mahindra badge

Auto express UK has an article on the Ecosport

this is nothing but a redesigned upgrade of Ford's Fusion! It even has the same petrol engine.

That is because the article is from 2004, infact even Ford India website still has some images of this car.

Around 10 lakhs pricing would be the minimum for a quality mini SUV in India with all the taxes and now add the rupee depreciation to it.

Just the rupee depreciation shall add 10 to 20% to car prices next year depending on their import substitution.

Cheers

Well, that's what Mahindra too has done, read our minds and putting together the Mini-Xylo. Though not a pure SUV design it's close to one and will have 4X4, all under 6lacs. Need more?

Bolero and stylish in the same sentence is an Oxymoron. So it cannot happen

Hopefully, Mahindra will launch a non scary 7L small SUV, maybe even extend the Thar platform with Ac/HT/luxuries to a 8L 4x4
