Default Re: Why cant we get a nice compact Diesel SUV/Crossover in the price range of Rs 4-7

Auto Expo '12 could in all probability answer this thread 2010 was a sort of a hatchback year with most action taking place in the hatch space. 2011 was for the Sedans without doubt - Toyota Etios, Ford's new Fiesta, Hyundai's new Verna, Skoda Rapid, Nissan Sunny all taking centre stage.

2012 could very well be the year of "Mini SUVs" Come to think of it- Ford, Renult, Hyundai, M&M, Maruti Suzuki, Toyota are all said to be working on a Mini SUV. So this thread could even be closed by the mods by the end of next year

The easiest thing Maruti Suzuki could do is plonk the 1.3 Multijet diesel into the Gypsy, retune it for more low end torque, suitably modernize the existing body and we have a fantastic off-roader that is still light, powerful and nimble at the same time.

After the Gypsy, there has never really been a decent 4WD off-road capable SUV/Crossover, with some decent creature comforts, compact size, lightness of build, agility in handling and dynamics, capable of almost anything, powerful enough to go most places combined with the frugality and efficiency of a Diesel motor. 4-7 lacs range/ price on road.

Why cant all the zillion car makers think of people for whom such a vehicle would be a perfect dream come true?

Lots and lots of families and single people will automatically choose such a vehicle over all the existing options!

Guys - do come up with some possibilities for such a vehicle - it will be fun to see the response (if any) from you all.
