Audi launches A4's 5th engine option, 1.8T - Team-BHP

seems the same 1.8 tsi 160 bhp superb petrol motor is now there in the A4, priced at Rs 27,12,000 ex-showroom Delhi.

so the range with the basic ex-delhi price is:

A4 1.8 T FSI- RS 27,12,000
A4 2.0 T FSI- RS 29,09,000
A4 3.2 FSI QUATTRO- RS 36,11,000
A4 2.0 TDI- RS 29,09,000
A4 3.0 TDI QUATTRO- RS 37,09,000

I'm wondering how much sense it makes to have the 1.8 and the 2.0 petrols on offer side by side. Are you sure the new powerplant has been added to and not replaced the 2.0T in the line-up?

The 1.8T is priced competitively.It'll sell no doubt. But for a pure car enthusiast, the A4 3.2FSI QUATTRO will be the ultimate choice!

It should sell rather well then. The price was the biggest factor working against the A4 becoming a sales success. Hopefully after ironing out any reliability issues and coupled with Audi secure, the A4 should now be an attractive and sensible proposition.

"only" difference is end quality. Definately worth the premium IMO.

Skoda is not equal to Audi,so i guess the 7 lakh premium is VFM.But as someone mentioned is this a stripped down version?

To be honest, I don't see the point of the 3.2. Less torque than the 2.0 Tfsi and a fair bit heavier. Sure, it's got 50ish hp more than the four-banger but it doesn't make a difference in the real world. It's also just half a second quicker to 60. Just test drove it recently and absolutely loved the 2.0. In any case, the bigger engine is being discontinued in the A4 here in the states.
The disappointing thing is that the 2.0 for the Indian market makes 180 hp. Does anyone know why that is? Compression ratio? I don't buy the argument about fuel quality because the 3.2 makes the full 265 hp it makes everywhere else. IMO, the best variant is the 2.0 Quattro with the 6 speed stick like it's being sold here.

What's the point in having so many engines? With Audi's habit of continually changing existing engines and offering new ones, it creates confusion in the minds of the customer. Heck, I am confused myself!

It would be in their interest to decide on the most suitable engines and then focus their marketing exercises on the same. Look at Merc & BMW, they've stuck to the same engine range since launch and it's worked out just fine.

The 3.2FSI is a great drivers car, but pretty pointless with its 50 lakh rupee price tag. The BMW 530D is priced about the same; a car better in almost every aspect.

Makes sense to me, really. More production = volume cost savings. Since they've already got a 2 month waiting list on the Superb, my guess is they have excess engines stockpiled that will fit the A4 engine bay without too much fuss.

The 1.8T will make the A4 more frugal and more inexpensive to buy/own compared to the other engines. What really sweetens the deal is that awesome 7Speed DSG box that they will no doubt also include.

At around 30 Lacs, its still ludicrous...especially when you can get a Superb for 10 lacs less! But if you're determined on the 4 rings, then I'd go with this engine/ tranny combo.

AFAIK, VW does not share anything with Skoda in India. They are 2 separate entities. Although the same parent company they operate as 2 independant companies here.

So effectively Skoda India are not related to VW india. I doubt they share the same engine stocks.
