Since I drive in Chennai, I looked up the Chennai FE figures for the SX4 from this thread, for a logical comparison :

Taking an average of these 3 figures shows an FE of 11kmpl, which IMO is actually a respectable FE figure for a car that weighs 1200kgs, is 100bhp, has an SUV-ish stance, bigger wheels etc etc.

In 'normal' driving conditions, I get 12kmpl in city with 100% a/c from my Baleno which is 225kgs lighter and 9bhp lesser than the SX4. Given the substantial kerb weight increase in the SX4, I think the 11kmpl Chennai city figure is just awesome.

Rumours ? It would be a rumour when non-owners spread such news. But when Fiat-owners themselves mention about low FE, would you call that a rumour ? Don't believe me? Check the forum and you will see innumerable such instances.

Looks like this thread is made for me since I own both the 'fuel guzzlers' being discussed .

For those in the know, my driving is from Chembur to MIDC Khairne, a distance of 16kms one way. A/c is on all the time, tyre pressure maintained at 29psi for all tyres, one or max two people in the car. Driving is done normally with no emphasis on extracting mileage or revving the car.

Worst mileage has been 10.29kmpl.

Best mileage: 15.78kmpl.

As for the Palio S10, Worst mileage has been 9.82kmpl.

Best has been 18.67kmpl.

Looking at the excel sheet for both my cars, the overall monthly average has been between 10.75 to 13.75kmpl consistantly for both these cars. I am happy and satisfied with the mileage of both my cars.

Please lets not hijack this thread and it becomes a Fiat vs SX4 debate then..

My SX4 has completed 20,000 KM. Gives me between 10 and 11 in the city. Highway would be a tad higher at about 13. Car is 90% chauffer driven.

Done about 30-odd thousand kms. Get consistently between 8.5-9.5. AC on all the time, rarely not used. Max I have ever gotten is 9.7-something. Highway maximum is 11.8. Am running 215/55/R16; slightly larger than stock. How is everyone else managing the 11s and 12s in CITY traffic???

Anant,

As you said it, you have wider tyres with lower profile. This would effect the mileage. Moreover keeping the taco below 2500 rpm is the key to better mileage. In winters Mr car gives over 13 in city ( no ac)

I drive in Chennai and get ~11 kmpl within the city (75% AC). Get about 14 Kmpl in the highways (75% AC, cruise mostly at ~100 Kmph).

I am getting 11-11.5 consistently with 100% AC on, 100% City Drive, Tyre Pressure 33 psi all tyres(check every week).

On Highways, I have got around 15 km/l with lots of spirited driving around 120-130, with climate control to Hot Auto

My car has not done much touching 7K but it gives mileage of 11.5 to 12.5 consistently with 75% AC. Yes most of the time RPM is below 2500 thanks to Bangalore traffic. Tyre pressure is 32psi as I feel little bumpier at 33psi
Highways I have got 14 to 15 with 100% AC with speed between 80 to 100 as I usually don't cross beyond 100

I get 10-11 kmpl, but I am happy. I drive with AC 100% on and in areas where my avg speed is about 9-12 kms/hr (ie., I take about 45 mins to 1 hr to travel 9 kms).

On highways, I get better mileage - around 12-14, based on how I rev the engine up.

I've done about 24000 till now.

Initially I used to get 8.5-9 kmpl during the first 6 months.
However, after the 3rd service, its been around 10.5-11 kmpl (AC 100%)
which I think is pretty ok considering the traffic in Hyderabad.

On highways, it has been around 12-14 kmpl depending on how I rev the car.

I normally get around 10, but the route was mainly Nelson Manickam Road, Nungambakkam and Gemini, with AC on all the time.

Our SX4 done gives a consistent mileage of 11-12kmpl, in city with a/c on all the time in normal city driving condiions.

But,on highways it never goes beyound the 14-15 mark
