For example even the indica shows 140+ when true speed is 132 or so. As for alto, I presume its doing 130kmph. they only way to check your car's speedo error is to use a GPS, A vbox or something, or drive at such speeds at a speed trap(expensive, the fine can be 1000rs). Speed trap is however not very accurate. Speed radars have a 5% error level.

| @tsk1979: My tyres are stock size, but on wider alloys (5J as compared to stock 4J rims). There are many factors to be considered here. The weight of the alloys vs weight of steel rims is important. My guess is that the alloys are more or less of the same weight, from the steering response. Secondly, I keep my tubeless tyres at 35 psi. Plus given the wider rims, the tyre sidewalls are stiff and straight. Whereas with tubetype tyres on 4J rims (at about 33 psi), the tyres had a noticeable sidewall deformation. This means that my speedo is now showing less due to higher rolling radius, as compared to the situation when my avatar was snapped. I am running new S322 tubeless tyres that have done only 2000 kms. So the tread depth is also greater, meaning further negative error in speedo, plus there is higher rolling friction. Yet now the car crosses 160 on the same sloping stretch, whereas last time with normal petrol, when I had new S322 tubeless tyres, the car was barely crossing 150 on that stretch. Could be that overall my speedo is indicating slightly higher than the true speed, as you point out. Somehow my guess (also based on the timing throught the 93 km long Expressway) is that if there is a speedo error, it cannot be much. Last edited by rks : 7th July 2008 at 12:38. |

| Team-BHP Moderator ![]() | @rks, 7-8% speedo error is not much. Its normal. Most cars have that. I also run 35PSI when I do high speed. Moreover the weight saving of an alloy is overrated. Actually a wider tire offers more drag than a narrow tire. For example when I shifted to potenza G3 from MRF ZVTS in my indica(185 vs 165), the speedo which would show 150 at times, started topping out at 140-145. So if you fit a wider tire, your high speed drag will always increase. I suggest you borrow a GPS enabled cell phone from somebody and map your speedo error. To have an indication, drive at 120kmph on the speedo for around 10 seconds, and then look at the GPS, it would give your true land speed.

| Although this is very OT but the question is why ? From what basic Physics I was taught in school Kinetic/Static friction= Coeffecient of friction*Normal reaction and that friction was always independent of area. Moreover if you consider drag isn't the car's drag dependent on it's frontal area.

| Team-BHP Moderator ![]() | Umm buddy the friction they are talking about is when you are skidding in a newtonian world(not real world). Here we are talking rolling friction. It depends on a lot of factors, which include tire stiffness, material etc., etc., etc.., Moreover you will have higher aero-drag from wider tires(but not significantly higher). As for your static friction, yes when you are skidding the coeff of friction is independant of contact area, but then why are performance tires wide? Friction (and contact patch size) The above link will expain it to you. Its the rubber used in wider tires

| BHPian | tata motors for rude behavior of their dealers with our fellow team-bhp member. actually tata group of companies just focus towards cheap prices and do not believe in customer service. They treat their customers like crooks. I have always faced many many problems in dealing with tata group of companies. I really try my best to ovoid name TATA. NO FOR TATA. |

| I don't 'hate' them as such my vote goes to Hyundai 1. the look of the cars, the i10 looks horrible if you ask me, with those little black things sticking on the bumper 2. cant they have some creativity in naming cars? i10, i20 ... 3. Their cars lack any family look 4. Poor advertisements Last edited by SilentEngine : 3rd August 2008 at 21:04. Reason: added more points |

| Maruti. For taking away the 12V, 5speed gear box from M800. For their confusing branding and positioning of verious models within and outside India. (The M800 is an earlier version of the Alto. The zen estilo is an earlier version of wth MR Wagon. The old Zen was sold as Alto outside India. For not bringing in the smaller, more fuel efficient engines. For taking away the 1.1 L version of the Alto. For not giving us the diesel version fo the Grand Vitara. Or the Gypsy.

| BHPian | Funny!. People on this site 'hate' Hyundai the most, considering that it is the only car company in India that has stood up to and withstood the Maruti hegemony and offered their current and technologically superior vehicles at reasonable prices and have followed up by offering excellent after sales service with a fairly extensive dealer network. And, i pray for the day atleast one mainstream auto manufacturer in India offers a car that doesn't have "the family look". Please, God!.Also, i am really curious as to why so many members from Bangalore in this thread have such an intensive antipathy towards Hyundai. Is it because they decided to establish their factories in Chennai?. ![]() |

I think you forgot Accent (very economical), Accent CNG (Super Economical), Elantra (I found nothing wrong in the car and infact none of the manufacturers in india had given such goodies at such price), How can we forget Hyundai Verna? I think you are not famliar with these cars. This is the first time i'm hearing people hate the companies for their poor advertisement. Cheers Mate. Quote:
