Worst i can rate is Zigwheels; they mis-inform the viewer quite convincingly.
Its better they can read reviews in TBHP and just repeat it.

I thought they are pretty informed guys.

The worst is being aired on Zee. The guy has a pathetic accent of both English & Hindi, I remember Yamaha MT-01 was being ridden w/o a helmet
the female presenter used to sport the same sunglasses(more than 6 months ago, don't watch it anymore)
The CNBC Awaaz is good only when Tutu is on air.

Rest of the Auto shows are watchable if you have time to kill, but it would be n times better to search You Tube for videos

Old thread from 2005..
Wow still there is no change, these guys are too busy explaining the obvious.
Just watched one recently on the VW- only thing I could summarize was
-it was comfy
-ride was good
-the steering was also good
- engine felt powerful
- ample leg room
How much more generic can it get ?
No improvement after nearly 6 years also.

Default Auto shows on TV in India, is there scope for improvement??

I was going through some youtube videos and went through a few of the Indian autoshows. This left a big question in my head about the presentation of these shows and whether they could be made much better?
Have been a long term fan of Top Gear(the UK version), and i could never get myself to follow the indian car shows on a regular basis. Some view points i had on them:
IMHO

The Good bit
- They are quite informative
- Cover most new and upcoming cars
- seem to have a decent budget (international location shoots etc, although i don't know if these are totally sponsored by the auto company)
- Has attracted a few good auto experts like Hormazd etc

The Bad
- Drab and monotonous
- Extremely focused on mass market buyers
- Very little for enthusiasts

The Ugly
- The tone of the presenter
- Boring videos of the car going on straight roads

This just makes the show sooooper boring!! Who wants to see different views of a car moving on an empty straight road! Sometimes 3-4 scenes are just repeated while the guy or girl narrates a written down precis of the cars features and clinically prepared comments from a sheet of notes like "the rear leg room is 44cm more than the outgoing model and hence there is more leg room". To add to the pain, this entire note is read out in a rhyming poetic manner like someone is reading a summary of the budget!

This really makes me wonder why the auto shows here are not scaling up to western standards. It doesn't seem to be very difficult to have a casual free wheeling presentation, some enthusiastic videos and a little more feeling than a news report! Infact, most of the auto shows seem to be supported by auto mags..they could probably shoot videos on their test and long drives itself rather than early morning on straight city streets!

Whats your take on this guys? any pointers to whats hindering indian auto shows to become better and interesting?

A mirror image of my views!!

Our presenters are a bunch of sad no hopers in my opinion. I would not waste time watching them - they've got no "soul", unlike Top Gear UK etc.

Sheer waste of time, energy and power (for the TV).

Angry Height of being pathetic

This time It is Bertrand D'souza of Overdrive.

Episode date Sunday 23 June 2013.
Section "Auto Selector" , where common people like me and you would express their dilemma to so called "experts", and experts gives great advice to buy a car.

Section is itself looks like "Fake" to me.

Que : Which SUV to buy between Scorpio and Safari Storme.

Ans : Scorpio
Why?: Now comes the BOMB (Please see the image below)

If the reason for choosing Scorpio was about service, durability etc., Then it would have been understandable, but GOOD HANDLING ,LESSER BODY ROLL, PLANTED?

Yup I agree with you, this guy has few favorite brands in his list even if you ask the questions in different way he will pick and suggest only that brands. Once Jeep Is launched in India I am planning to ask him which is best Grande Cherokee or Scorpio I am sure this guy will suggest me only Scorpio is best

That guy in overdrive has no idea what he is talking about.Scorpio is by far the worst vehicle that i have sat in and it has loads of body roll.

The safari is in comparison is much better in that regard.

These guys are journalist first and automotive part is secondary.

The newer Scorpio's are for more pliant, especially in 4WD form. We had a team bhp meet today where this was also being discussed, as it was found out.

So he could as well be right!!

He goofed up well in his review of hatchbacks. In diesel it was the Polo & in petrol the i20 which had the best performance (it was during Polo's launch)

Haven't bought an OD mag since then.

He's goofed up much worse than this.

There was this review of i20 CRDi and the Punto 90 hp, it was reported that i20 Beats the Punto when it comes to, suspension, steering feedback and handling Have these guys gone crazy or are they plain Foolish.

Regarding the Scorpio v/s Safari Storme, I better stay away from that.

I do like this presenter named Siddharth Patankar. Speaks well and what he says makes sense to me. There are many others we rather not speak about. No discussion is needed for Hormazd and I too like Renuka Kirpalani. Frankly I watch the presenters rather than the shows themselves.

Most Indian reviewers are overly chatty. They drone on about things we can easily gather elsewhere. No need to explain all the creases, bumps and curves in detail, is there?

Just get in the damn car, and tell us how it feels to be driven. Something like what this guy is upto...

In fact when this guy reviewed the Audi S6 V8, he enjoyed the beast so much, he forgot to talk at all during the review except the occassinal "jesus"; ending his review by saying 'Thats it, iam retiring. Sorry Audi, iam not returning this.. "!

The only Indian journalist worth listening to is Mr.Hormazd.

Or they could learn something from Chris Harris. That guy simply loves driving cars and his job, it oozes from his reviews.
