EPCG is only for CBU imports and does not apply for cars made/assembled here.

EPCG = Export Promotion Capital Goods Scheme . Basically, a hotelier can buy a Camry at substantially reduced duty taxes (mere 5%). More information here (A8 for less than the E,what is EcoTimes talking about).

The Accord is assembled here and thus, not eligible for any EPCG benefits.

Because under ECGC scheme, the customer pays only the base price + 5% duty. I think dealer is also bypassed in this transaction as the deal is done directly by Toyota. Dealer will get only a 'delivery and free service provider' charge.

Whereas we the comman man pays base price + 125% duty + dealer commission.

If Toyota starts assembling Camry here, they will be able to price it around Accord / Superb petrol i.e., around 18-19 lacs ex. showroom. It will then have a decent sale of more than 200 cars per month. I wonder why they are not doing it.

its a terrific car but pitched at a bad price. I sued to sell the camry's while i was working for a toyota dealership. the most common feedback- awesome car, bad pricing.

Have you checked the second hand market.. Camry's sell for as much or slightly higher than the Accords.. There aren't many pre-worshipped Camry's on the market as compared to Accord and that's because they do not sell as many in the first place. So the lack of supply probably keeps the price up..
