Default Volvo to launch S60 in India by 2010

Swedish luxury carmaker Volvo Car is expected to launch its luxury sedan S60 in India by 2010, once the car is reintroduced in the European markets in the middle of next year.

The company would also consider setting up an assembly facility in the country as soon as Volvo Car India, the Indian subsidiary of the Ford group company, starts selling at least 2,000 units a year.

"We will be launching the S60 in the Indian market after it is rolled out in Europe in the middle of next year. We hope to have it in India before the end of 2010," Volvo Car India MD Paul de Voijs said. The S60 was phased out since May this year and the new car would be an advanced version, he added.

Volvo Car India, which sells its vehicles as completely built unit (CBU) here, would bring in the S60 from its parent facility in Belgium. Mr Voijs said the firm would look at having an assembly plant here only after achieving a "reasonable sales target".

Baaad move. What volvo need to do is bring over the s40 and sell it in the Laura price bracket - hopefully gaining them place in the market.

Real good cars not cared for due to lack of brand awareness and missing focus from the company. No response to the thread shows lack of interest in the car enthusiast community as well...

Volvo's are awesome cars known for their safety features as well as their spaciousness inside cabin. Had driven the V70 and C30 once back in the UK and highly impressed. With proper marketing I don't think 2000 units is a tough goal.

Cheers

They are known for their reliability too. Volvo has a records page with its owners showing how many miles they have logged in their car. The miles some cars have done are really awesome.

Usually most premium maufacturers go the top to bottom approach in introducing their cars,Volvo is no different. As they introduce cheaper cars they will add to their delearship strength. The only thing they need to be more proactive about is brand awareness, building on the USPs of volvo.

Volvo went to the extreme on this one. They followed the largest to the smallest approach.

Starting with the Truck Trailers and Busses

Actually Volvo Cars and Trucks/buses are two non-related business entities.

Volvos are highly priced machines even here down under. Its the best car to go for if you are really interested in safety features. They make awesome cars , but will the Indian consumer pay a premium for things like 'safety' and brand name?
