New Delhi: Skoda Auto India is planning to roll out its much-talked about premium station wagon Skoda Combi later this year.

Sources say the Combi will be larger than the Indigo Marina and Corsa Swing, the other two station wagons from the stable of Volkswagen’s Indian subsidiary. Combi will be launched both in diesel and turbo-petrol variants with a price tag between Rs 13 lakh and Rs 16 lakh.

Its long-awaited small car, Fabia, may also hit the Indian roads during the later half of next year along with the new Skoda Octavia, manufactured on a bigger platform.

The Indian debut of Skoda Fabia was due last year, but the company delayed the rollout due to production constraints.

According to company sources, the management is also evaluating the launch of other cars from Skoda’s global portfolio to take on rivals in India.

Skoda Auto India caters to the premium car market in India with 10 models, including Skoda L&K, Skoda Superb and SkodaRS.

The company last month announced the rollout of a 20-valve turbo version of its recently launched Octavia Rider, fitted with a 1.8-litre turbo petrol engine. The car is priced at Rs 11,03,369 (ex-showroom Delhi).

The carmaker is targeting a sales growth of 30 per cent this year. To achieve this, the company plans to be present in every passenger-car segment. It would also double the production capacity at its Aurangabad manufacturing facility to 30,000 units. The expansion programme is likely to be completed by the year-end.

From the horse's mouth... yep.. had a word with a top Skoda Auto India official myself... here's how Skoda is gonna launch its lineup.

First in-line is the Octavia Combi, followed immediately by the Superb Diesel. They might exchange launch dates, but these are the first to come in. Combi might come for around Rs. 14-15 lakhs... dunno how Skoda will find a market for a 14-15 lakh rupee estate.

Next is the A5 Octavia. Expected in Jan 2006. No confirmation on engines yet, but seems, the 110bhp TDi fill find its way. Whether the Pump Deuse does initially might be a bit doubtful.

Mid next year is the Fabia. Saloon is a sureity, hatchback is being debated, combi a bit after the saloon. The wait is also for the new platform Fabia to enter, which should have more room on the inside. Also, the rear treatment on the current saloon was not liked by most customers clinicked here.

And 2007, the Yeti is coming here.

As hell rider rightly mentioned, the delay is due to production expansion and nothing else. Skoda's plant is being doubled from 15000 to 30000 units a year. It's taking them six months to do so.

Waiting for the Fabia is not going to help....the launch seems to be taking longer than expected. Each one of the dealers is telling a different date...checked out in Bangalore, when I went to give my Rider for servicing...they said that the car is expected to be launched mid 2006(he also seemed unsure with the information that he gave)

Mid 2006 seems very optimistic! considering the launch of octavia combi (is there a market for this.sounds funny!) and the new Octavia the window is too short for a fabia launch in mid 2006. end 2006 or 2007 may be realistic.
one can consider fabia for the next to next car!

I think they definately need a price revision, else the Combi too will be heading the Superb way.Who would want to pay 14lacs-15lacs for a Estate when their sales are not so encouraging in India!!!
The Superb diesel is an excellent option, but again this will be positioned between the 28lacs-30lacs bracket which will prompt disaster sales for the manufacturer.
Skoda seriously needs to rethink its strategy in India. They started off really well, but are making a blunder out of themselves off late.
