Some more details from BS Motoring Buy New Ford Figo | Ford Figo Prices | Reviews | Features | Photos | BS Motoring

Quote:
1. The Figo doesn't have the verve or spunk that the Suzuki Swift portrayed when it was first launched. Nor does it make you go wow. But it does appear sportier in the traditional sort of way and with its bulging wheel arches looks big too.

2. Ford's used the Kinetic design process for this car too and as Scott Strong from the design team put it, the tear-drop silhouette give its a front-end bubble effect with a tapering rear-end

3. The interiors are spacious and big. Ford claims that the legroom, headroom and shoulder room are better than its closest competition - the Suzuki Swift. In fact, the rear legroom is better than even the VW Polo!

Guys here is a Initial test drive from Overdrive Ford Figo- First Drive - Ford Figo: Interiors - News : Overdrive

Quote:
Ford Figo – First Drive

Lets be blunt here – the Figo has to make a meal of the volume generating small car segment succeed if Ford’s Indian outpost has any hope of cracking it in one of the world’s strongest growing (and by extension most critical) market. Ford was one of the first to enter India when markets opened up over a decade ago but, and lets be blunt again, they’re nowhere near claiming top-of-mind recall among car buyers while others, notably fellow Chennai-ites Hyundai, have steamed ahead.

The Figo then aims to bring Ford back into mass consciousness. Does it deliver? It isn’t particularly flamboyant, is it? I had my doubts when I first saw the Figo in pictures; in fact if you know your cars you’ll immediately draw parallels with the Fusion. Glad to report that in the metal, and in the environment it was built for, the Figo does look the business. It isn’t as flamboyant nor does it draw the emotional response that the Swift did (and which the Beat will) but it is a well-designed car which places practicality over style.

To be frank, I some what like this redish copper color ,I wish they give an leather with this color which makes a real luxury feel too

The diesel is the 1.4 Duratorq that we are now familiar with. It produces 67.5 bhp@4000 rpm and 16.5 kgm of peak torque. Both engines are mated to the IB5 gearbox that's been doing duty on the Ikon and prior to that on the Escort.
Are they sure that 70 bhp@6250 rpm ,I feel there must a mistake in this,if this is going to be a real then the petrol engine is nothing to write back to home.

Beat pricing will surely be a liker price

5. The regular dashboard is a two-tone affair with a different colour for the top of the dashboard. Though this doesn't cause reflections on the windscreen

20. Ford says it's the first European bred affordable car for the masses in India. And therefore the pricing will be competitive. We assume that prices will start at Rs 3.6-3.7 lakh for the base petrol going up to Rs 5 lakh for the top-end diesel version.
Thank God the red dashboard is optional. My first impression was "Ford killed this beautiful car with red dash"!

The regular dashboard should look sleek. Personally I would prefer the beige interiors, it gives a bright and roomy feel to a car IMO.

If the price is any where close to what is being speculated, FIGO should do very well.

14. This is the first Ford to be signed off by an Indian engineer, whose last name goes as Sundar. Ford has finally learnt the art of frugal engineering

15. For this project some 84 prototypes and 136 pre production cars were made. The cars went through 7.5 lakh kilometres of cumulative testing or the equivalent of 2 million kilometres of customer testing. The car has been tested in Australia and Europe.
16. 20 crash tests were undertaken on the car. The car will feature ABS and front airbags (driver and passenger) as an option. A passive Anti-Theft system will also be available

18. Steering can't be adjusted for rake. The steering position is dictated by airbags rather than comfort.

19. The car features 14-inch 175/65 R14 tyres all around. This is the same as the regular Fiesta. Car also features ventilated discs at the front and drums at the rear with the ABS versions featuring larger discs. Braking is good for the vehicle overall.

are these 84 proto type and 2L KM done for Figo or the original Fiesta (previous gen europian version), From the review I can't find any major change between the previous gen fiesta hatch and figo except for a new front grill and head lamp cluster, similar to what they did for IKON

I can't find any difference between the interiors of new figo and fiesta (hatch)

spot the difference

Fiesta hatch (prev gen)

The only killer factor is the price mentioned in the post, may be Ford wants to pitch Figo against the likes of Swift and bring the current gen European hatch at later point to compete with i20/Polo/Punto

Agreed to you point that Ford want to capture market share in the small car segment by introducing Figo to test the market and acceptance.

Figo seems quite capable at least on paper. The pricing will be the deciding factor.

I have seen the Newgen Fiesta hatch it is an absolute stunner & is head and shoulders above the competition.
There is a video on U tube in which Jeremy Clarkson puts it to rigorous test , even ditching the car nearly 3-4 feets of water on a sea shore. Amazingly the car did not stall and came out without a hitch.

I sincerely hope that Ford will introduce this hatch in India some time later in the game to trump the competition.

The new colored dash board I guess should look nice on the black color! Atleast from the picture posted above, it looks nice to me!

Ford has sent out these cars to auto journalists for their first reactions which obviously is a deliberate and calculated move. I'm curious to know what exactly is the idea behind this 'preview' with pre-production cars? Various auto mags are only giving out first impressions and saving their verdict on the car till they get to see the final production version, which means the actual product may or may not be the same as what we are seeing now.

If Ford is looking at quick feedback, anyway there is very little time to incorporate any major changes into the final product.

Of course it could be for generating interest and keep the buzz going for the next 2-3 months. Is there any other logical reason I am missing?

From what I am hearing about the price 3.75L to 4.9L, Ford have a winner on their hands. This car should sell and along with the Beat, should make a decisive statement that Indian buys want value pricing and will no longer be gouged by brand perception.

Maruti has understood it quite well and has priced all their cars in the last 3-4 years keeping this in mind.

Honda does not understand it at all as noted by the phenomenal sucess of the Jazz and 2008 Accord. Contrast that with the 2004-2007 Accord which was priced at 15L and was the highest seller in their segment.

Hope Fiat/Nissan/Renault and Hyundai follow the Ford/GM lead and provide value priced automobiles.

The reason could be to keep the buzz going until they launch the car. Now that Beat is out, these kind of reviews will keep some customer waiting for Figo before they make a purchase.
