I sincerely hope that it doesnt turn out to be just wishful thinking on our part !
1.2TSI must come to compete with new generation of engines from Japanese and Korean manufacturer.

I like the confidence in some members statements.
I just hope they have the insider news than confident speculation.

Does anyone know the roadmap "if any" of the Polo in India? I am asking this because of the statement "later on".

Anybody has info on the rear seat information like legroom min/max and rear seat width ?

I checked VW's website in UK and Germany and they claim that rear width is about 1384 mm, but no info about the rear seat width.

Motoroids - Polo Update

Look at this link. Our friendly spies have this news.

"Our sources have confirmed that the Polo, which was supposed to be available in 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel options, will be available only in the 1.2-litre petrol guise. It will be launched at the Auto Expo next month and will go on sale instantly as the production of the India-spec version commenced on the 12th of December at VWs Chakan plant. The 1.4-litre petrol and diesel variants will be launched later in 2010 which is a bit of a disappointment considering a lot of people were delaying their buying decisions for the Polo diesel."

This news is beating me to death.

This news is beating me to death.

I think later in 2010 means mostly second quater i.e june or even in may .They may do this just to avoid huge waiting list for the car and by the time they can ramp up the production line to meet the demand.

During the interview on Overdrive one of VW Bosses mentioned that the entire engine management system is being modified to take care of poor fuel quality. Hope this change will put some life and excitement in the existing 1.2 engine.

VW must be aware of the fact that Indians have now exposure to good quality engines from the Japs & Koreans, and lifeless engines will ruin there image.

On diesel launch, I would not believe this until VW-India themselves announce plans. We had already seen production pics of TDi from the Ritesh Madhok flickr album!!!

True. Well, if its the same engine refined - i would really hesitate to be the first buyer with a cheque book in my hand. I would rather wait for some real reviews (not the paid for ones) of the engines. Where are all the critics?

In the Overdrive clip, I think a Fabia sportline is shown (on a raised platform, towards the end of the clip, just before Sirish starts his final commentary). It is a red one with white top.

Guys any reason as to why someone will even think of 1.2 TSI in Indian Polo when UK still has two non TSI petrol variants in new Polo? i.e. 1.2L/60PS/108Nm@3000RPM and 1.2L/70PS/112Nm@3000RPM.

In UK, price wise 1.2 TSI is placed above 1.6TDI 75PS!! The only engine priced higher than it is 1.6TDI 90PS. Just imagine the price of 1.2TSI if at all its launched here in India! IMO it will definitely make Honda Jazz to feel a VFM car!!

So, if we look at 1.2L/70PS engine which is the most probable one coming - how is it compared to the same segment cars engines like the Punto and i20?

Looked at the link, and they are passing off an international-spec photo (#2) as an India spec one. Heck, even the steering is on the left, not to mention integrated turn signals on the outside mirrors.

So do we take all their updates with a pinch of salt or what?

As far as the 70PS 1.2 (from the Fabia) being a launch engine, isn't that what I've been saying all along??
