Over the past decade, Hyundai has rapidly moved up into the top echelon of the worlds automakers and part of its success has come from better tailoring its cars to local needs. To help in that respect, the South Korean company has opened a network of technical centers in the regions where it does business.

Last week, Hyundai opened it fourth R&D facility outside of Korea with its new location in Hyderabad, India. The Indian center will focus on developing small cars and the home office has named it the global center of excellence for the segment.

The Hyderabad Center is starting off with 300 engineers and will also be providing support services to other locations in South Korea, Japan, Germany and the United States. The 300,000 square-foot facility took two years to build at a cost of $25 million.

Hyundai fianally wakes up, frankly hyundai has never taken our local market that seriously, though it has been welcomed by the customers heartily, this is a step in the right direction.

great move!

i think india is all set for the next phase of automotive revolution.

every manufacturer worth mentioning now wants to have a lion's share in indian market.

i think the recession just about happened at right time, and has forced the automotive giants to looks at untapped venues.

Hyundai has always given due consideration to the indian customers. They are the only auto manufacturer to provide a good A/T tranny in B-segment,first to provide curtain airbags in the <10lakh region, provide the best VFM cars compared to any other manufacturer.

That a great news. Now Hyundai does its R&D here and export them to other countries.
Come-on use the same for India as well.
Expecting more quality products with a decent pricing. Not like i20.
