Prospective buyers of BMWs are far more interested in more than just the bells and whistles of say, a Passat It's that monstrous engine and the driving dynamics that you shell the money out for. For ~25L, I'd choose a 320d blindly over a Passat. Leather seats and cup holders are things i can live without

Thats too basic.

It wont be done to the pertol engines, only 320d.

But it would retain the auto transmission.

I would consider it.
I'd rather they drop the A/T, but I guess that'll burden them with additional costs of bringing in the 6-speed M/T and creating more variation in the product line-up, mechanically. Leather is hardly a concern. If it matters so much, Stanley with do an A+ job for Rs.50k.

I prefer the AT compared to MT. While these cars might be fun to drive in MT but on indian roads it does not make sense. I would rather cruise in city and the AT do its work and just enjoy the drive than to keep shifting. And the highway trips you get the tippy tronic to do it's work.

Under 28L with BSI means it makes tremendous sense.

Won't it be MUCH cheaper than 38L ? Somewhere around 30L OTR, plus about 1.5L for BSI ? Or are my figures wayyyy skewed here.

Oops I meant. I edited it now.

As a comparison the Passat with DSG and the 140PS CRDi engine is 29L on road bangalore.

The Elegance variant of the C220 CDI is 39.41L and the Avant Garde is 40.91L.

The 320d base variant costs 36.7L.

Wow, the taxes take the "320d" price to 5 series territory.

Why compare the BMW with the Passat - just for the price. If going for the Passat, then the Superb makes mores sense today, and actually if paying close to 20L why not just forget the fuel effeciency of diesel and instead go for the 1.8 TSI superb at 20-21 L OTR. This is the one that the 28 L OTR BMW should be compared with not the passat.

The superb 1.8TSi would give the 320d a tough fight on performance too.

Makes more sense to compare a diesel to a diesel, I guess?

i was offered 3's in sept by navnit motors and these were the BLR on-road prices quoted:
320i: 30,47,191
320d: 34,81,478
325i: 37,52,908
all prices had 2l+ discounts but had heavy down-payments, upwards of 10l+. the BMW finance for these cars had many options.
