My Re.0.02 about the best moments, at least in North India - the tall-boy design came in with the Santro and Wagon-R, and Sardarjis could finally drive comfortably without developing a crick in the neck!

Default Better Roads

India got better roads for the cars we got. I do not know if it was easy to attain 200kms/hr during the last decade.
Golden Quadrilateral is a great gift to Indian automobile and hence the growth of nation.

Personally - During the last decade I traveled in cars, less than 10 times; whereas in this decade I own my 4th car, covered around 1.2L kms.

By the way the title should be 2000-2009, or we should have waited for another year to let the decade complete (2001-2010). :-)

Having owned one Palio I should have though before commenting about Swift. I agree with you.

i thought 2000-2009 is one decade!(10 years ) anyways
the important stuff are

1)launch of nano
2)the golden quadrilateral
3)launch of cars like made in india only i10,i20,a-star (gloabal launch in india)
4)launch of pulsar( we would be still riding 97cc bikes without them )
5) teambhp and another x forum for the 2 wheeler kind... hats off to both ! i have learned a lot from these 2 communities and has lead me to buy two machines which have life and soul whenever i drive them and not to mention the stares i get on the road!
6)companies like vw,nissan, bmw etc taking us serious and setting up their plants here

the major thing though is that fact now every major brand is available in India be it Harley,Ducati,RR,Lambo!(heard some news about the launch of the mighty Bugatti!) only major player yet to arrive here is Ferrari .

And not to forget the price associated with JLR models even by european standards. Just compare jaguar model pricing in India to german manufacturers.

Tata just doesn't quite enjoy the luxury of free pricing.

Akilesh,

LR Discovery / Range Rover HSE bothe are quite contemporary when it comes to equipment , features and rugged engineering. Styling yeah I agree they are a bit monotonous/traditional.

What tata should learn and spread to Tata's own UV stable is the best Engineering & manufacturing processes of LR and make that engineering truely cost effective with cost effective Indian labour.

Tata Owns JLR and it is a great learning opportunity for TATA motors now before tata Decides to sell JLR for whatsoever in future.

With Typical TATA pricing, Tata can truely pull UV sales volumes with its LR inspired Engineering applied on TATA logo bearing vehicles.

1) The Launch of the NANO re-defined history.
2) Tata acquisition of JLR.
3) The return of the great FIAT with the Linea.
4) The growing market for the SUVs with the Scorpio.
5) The coming of age for MUL with the Swift.
6) The loss of sheen from the perennial best seller M 800.

No doubt, for Indian automobile industry the advent of TATA Nano is nothing less than a revolution!. Another best moment , should definately be the indigenously build electric car: REVA.

As for technology, well nothing better than the Direct Injection Technology being integrated by many car manufacturer's . European car manufacturers in our automobile market have always been one step ahead of others, no wonder they have brought the inception of Stratified Injection Technology.

  1. This is best time of the whole decade all the beginings are finally paying off.
  2. The better highways.
  3. Car companies finally setting PLC on their product.
  4. Now we are arguing over which MJD or vtech or DOHC or VVT or CRDI or many more is better!!! 10 years back we had one practical one option M800!
  5. And on top of that we have money to buy those!! 10 years back a middle class man could just manage a Bajaj chetak and Now there are so many option all across the segments.. you name it you got it from Nano to Rolls royce, kya mangta hai bolo!!

This is better and future is much better!!
