| We have a 93' 800 which has around 75000 kms on the odo. I too have that vibration at idling problem. The gear lever vibrates as if its about to break off. Otherwise a very smooth and reliable car. Surprisingly, the Indica2000 we had from Aug 2000 to Sept 2004 remained almost rattle free to the end (28k kms), even if it was one of the worst built cars in the country.Only noise problem with it was that the gear lever creaked when touched.

| Super-Admin | Well, a rattle has set in to my C220 - and its damn ANNOYING! Its from the roof moulding, just a little ahead of the sunroof. GTO

Most of us are bad at DIYs...so if there are specialised workshops/mechanics that do it..it would be very helpful....

To prevent gear lever vibration during iding, what you need is a dual mass flywheel, which the cheaper cars dont have.

| Talking of Rattles, which seem to be a universal phenomenon with cars irrespective of their segments, I remember my debate with Steeroid. We debated on chronic issue of "Fiat cars vs. non-Fiat cars". Steeroid said (and he has said it often) that his accent was always rattle free. There were some other folks on this forum, who confirmed that accents always have relatively less rattles. I think that really speaks highly of Accent, a car which is always underrated for its below par performance/handling. I just dont like that car, but thought of acknowledging this specific point.

| Super-Admin | Adding to that, a 10000 km run Getz does not rattle at all compared to a 2000 km run Swift. From first hand experience on a weekend trip. GTO

Also I believe, may be the engine is so silent that even slight rattle sounds big !

| Super-Admin | Skamb, You would be surprised at the lack of solid build quality in the Swift. Theres uneven panel gaps and rattles galore! I love the car though.... GTO

| yes, rattles are common - all the more due to bad road conditions, we get to hear more of them...i guess, as merv said, many of the fitments between materials are not thought through by manufacturers, so the problem compounds... anyways, my 9K km fiat rattles and creaks as well, the door trim and the driver seat - and anuroop has been useless. so to ask buffetfan's original question...are there any good rattle exterminators around?

| BHPian | I hate to drive my 3yr old Esteem (60kkm) without music because of all the strange faint noises it makes ! I have managed to fix various rattles by stuffing tissue paper between the edges of fibre panels, jamming a block of thermocol between my audio system and the top of bay in which it is mounted etc. ... fixing 'em aint tough, but finding the offending part is the killer! Apart from the usual "something-under-the-dashboard" rattles that appear only at certain engine rpm (and disappear just before u can pinpoint where!), I have noticed an odd creaking noise while the car is shuddering, if I let go of the clutch too quickly... sounds like somebody shaking an old wrought iron bed! I suspected that it was something to do with the suspension or mountings near the front driver's side wheel and have asked the Maruti guys to check it out a number of times, but they all report that the suspension is fine and there is nothing amiss! Still, when I re-create the sound for them, they can't explain what's causing it, leave alone fix it! Anybody else facing a similar problem? - T u r b o C - |

| I had read this thread two day before & was closely hearing for any rattles from my 3500 kms completed Swift. But I could not figure out any noise. May be my heart would have kept my mind dummy to keep myself happy. Hence requested the co-passenger to figure out of any such noises. He too said he could not figure out anything. (May be he does not want to hurt me). Yes. I don't think any rattles appearing in my Swift. Am I missing anything? ![]() |

Any suggestions on the best way to go about this? I am also thinking of getting an underbody rubber coating done ... any idea if this is helpful, and how durable? TIA, Simran

| In a place like India, rattles are inevitable and most of us just have to live with them. I noticed that loud rattles are easier fixed than the not so loud ( smaller?) rattles. Anyway, anyone know how to deal with a squeaking clutch pedal? |
