Tata Nano's win is a well deserved win- auto magazines here in Philippines have articles on it!

But my gripe is that the Nano should not be compared on the same scale as that of, say, the Cruze or the Superb or the Fortuner- they are beasts of different segments!

Very nicely put, + 1 to that. Nano is a deserved winner, no 2nd opinion on that. There may be opinions that there should be different categories, but there should also be a final winner, the one who has made the most impact, be it to the masses or to the overall automotive industry. Nano wins hands down in that respect.

Congrats to the Nano team,
Its also been shortlisted into the Autocar 'car of the decade' pollhttps:
//web.questback.com/isa/qbv.dll/ShowQuest?id=3107299-69686792-nTJaNYel-C5dOXf&rtcdx=1

Longshot, but will be great if an Indian car wins such a poll.

I feel the same for the VFM Vista also.

Truly agree with Zappo.

We sometimes dont give due credits to few cars that actually deserves all the accolades.

Nano surely deserves the award in all senses.

One Nano cought fire and we forget all those expensive cars burning themselves down on Indian roads, we must be ashamed of ourselves on criticizing the NANO.

Lets appreciate the TATA's for giving us VFM,affordable, comfortable and spacious cars of all kind from their inventory.

Well done TATA NANO.

+1 to that. Nano is not a BMW or the likes. The car is meant for typical "middle class" like me, who would prefer

(1) instead of being a road kill in the chaotic metro traffic
(2) instead of being roasted like a barbacue in hot MAY middle,
(3) giving your kids / wife a "car ride" when you barely make your ends meet.

Now that is priceless.

Mind you, I have never ridden one (have seen some in chennai), but Nano does make a car "affordable" to middle class. Period.

I too wish TATA a great successful 2010.

Definetly a good show by NANO. Three cheers to that. I only want TATA to support a good product backed by quality and proper customer service. Then you are a sure shot success with NANO or any other Auto product of yours!

Nano winning is a good thing. But it should have been named the "CAR OF THE YEAR" on its own without comparing it with the other cars mentioned in the list.

Unfortunately they have not given the break up of how the 63 points were calculated. I am really curious to know on what points did the Nano beat the Fortuner ?

+1 to that. Would be nice to see a TBHP Car of the Year nominated by members! Also Category wise awards would be cool.

We need to consider the motive behind the designing NANO. It may not be the start performer on the road, but that is not actually the reason behind making this car. This Car is for common people of India and aiming to providing adequate comfort & safety to them while travelling with family. In my opinion it truly deserves the award on this basis.

i20 was released in 2008, and IIRC was considered for COTY last year.

One question. Is JKTyre an OEM supplier for Nano???

What are the parameters for judging the car of the year. No offence to any brand, this question is just for knowledge sharing.

I dont think having an international impact should be a major parameter to judge a car to be 'Car of the year' since the impact was only due to the car's pricing and not the car by itself.

If I am in India, i will buy this car and put a big sticker saying, proud to drive a indian made! First, outsider has to appreciate our work then only we believe ourself. Ghosn praised what M&M had done with Logan. Now, Nano had proved Indians can do wonders. What Tata has acheived is not a simple Engineering fete!

Ask the middle class people who rides bike what they think about this little wonder. Not the people who drive a car already.
