Fiat MJD is from last year. Hence I go with i20 CRDi. Followed by the K Series engine by Suzuki.

1) The poll is not suppossed to have Fiat SDE. Also the Cruze's VM Motori's RA420 was available in Captiva before 2009. So even Cruze's motor is not supposed to be here.

2) There are engines not listed in here. Accord V6 is one of them.

3) Where is K-series ? I think this engine must be here. Its one motor that has good FE and performance. Revv happy and can be considered real replacement for G series motors.

Although not mentioned here, my vote goes to K series.

Poll needs to be redone.

Anyway, my vote will def goto Honda's 3.5 V6 among the NA engines and Skoda's 1.8 TSI among the FI engines.

1.8 TSI it is

1.3 MJD has been around for quite a while now, and certainly shouldn't be part of the 2009 best engines poll. MJD-2 is already out, and let us wait for it to find its way to India.

The 1.8 TSI! Absolute gem of an engine.

Whats the Fiat 1.3 MJD doing here? Its been here from Swift days, and even with FIAT itself in the Palio for almost two years now. Cannot be considered as a 2009 engine.

Nano's Nano Sized engine. Has to be a acheivement to exceed 20KMPL in a fuel sparse century. Wont take long for it to exceed the 1.3MJD #s across the world.

FIAT Multijet, is THE Engine, the older version with the FGT is here since the launch of Swift DDiS, but the version with VGT was launched in the FIAT Linea in 2009.

That engine should also be in the option for the polls, my vote goes to the FIAT Multijet VGT for its awesome Fuel efficiency, decent power to pull such a heavy car like the Linea and excellent higway cruising abilities.

I'm a huge fan of the Fortuner's 3.0 diesel. It's a powerful unit, inexistent turbo-lag and really makes the SUV pack a punch.

Butttttttttttttttttttt the Ritz 1.2 L gets my vote. Why? Simply because its more relevant to the Indian market, is part of the volume hatchback segment and will power other Marutis soon (starting with the Swift). The Ritz 1.2 petrol is a jewel of an engine....very refined, revv happy, fuel efficient and offers good driveability too.

Come to think of it, its surprising that Maruti offers such a nice engine in a 4.5 lakh rupee hatch. But the ones in the expensive GV and the SX4 aren't segment leaders!!

I love Hyundai's CRDi's.

The TSI from skoda is a dream come true. Best of both the worlds.

But, engine of the year could only go to 1.2 K-series.

It scored over the famous and much capable 1.3 DDiS, as the sales figures show for Ritz.

You missed one point, this thread is only for engines that made DEBUT in 2009 (for the 1st time ever), MJD is there since 06,07 IMO.
