Its smaller than current Aveo which led me to title of 'baby sedan'. New Aveo looks like it will be moving up in size and Optra might vanish one day.

This month's ACI confirms it that Chevy Sail is indeed sailing to india and will be pitched against Dzire.

Not only that, chevrolet is bringing in sail hatchback to india in the 4-5 lakh range, which means end of U-va which was surely not doping wonders for Chevrolet.

Chevrolet is surely looking damn serious for India.

All in all great news guys, as more competition means great products

What ACI says:

- GM India has approved the introduction of the Sail sedan and hatch in India.

- Engines to be offered:
>Sedan: 1.4 S-TEC III - 103 bhp @ 6000rpm petrol
>Sedan: 1.3 SDE diesel (GM's version of the Fiat Multijet)
>Hatch: 1.2 S-TEC II petrol which powers the Beat. No info on the diesel.

- Price of the sedan expected to undercut the segment leader, DZire. Hatch expected to start below 4 lakhs.

- Launch expected at the 2012 Auto Expo.

I hope this doesn't come true! Instead, I wish a Aveo based on the Aveo RS concept!

If they can modify it to bring it under 4 meter like the CS, then nothing like it.

A promising car indeed! I'd be happy to see this car tuned into a City Cab instead of the current M/R Logans. It will be interesting to see what lump Chevrolet would plonk into this car. The Beat's lump wouldn't do justice to it IMO.

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

The Beat's engine will be shared by the hatch, not the sedan.

I think a proper facelift in the current aveo and some tuning works in the engine would be a better plan than launching a new car..! Personally i love the aveo, though its a little old school, that design theme and all but i'd say it was never a success....

A proper facelift would be do some magic...!

GM has hinted that a smaller, cheaper sedan may come to India instead of the Sonic (considering the lackluster sales of the current Aveo). I have a feeling it could be this one.

My feeling is that GM would launch the Sail twins and Not the Sonic ones.

Some portals while reporting the Beat LPG launch have mentioned a senior GM official saying that after the 1.0 L diesel engine for the Beat, GM India would come up with a 1.3 L diesel unit which would be used in the new car. Now this matches with what ACI had reported a few months ago.

The current aveo has to go. Both models are nothing but aged 2000 daewoo kalos hatch (the UVA) and the kalos sedan (facelifted 2006 version) which are sold in India. I think the sail would replace but the sonic looks promising and the sail pretty dowdy.

IMO this is a terrible looker!

lacks the in your face value of the Beat and Cruze! the curves take away the aggressive looks and make it look a little silly!

Looks more Cruze than Beat to me.

This should hot up the Entry level sedan segment if GMI can price it competitively.
