Etios is one of the least apealing to the heart Toyota, toyota cars were always bland, but still had an understated class, the etios lacks this as well. It would still have the toyota reliability but maruti's too are reasonably reliable, so tyotas edge has been reliability in the mid and higher end segment cars, the lower end cars anyways tend to be reasonably reliable, so what would be the toyoto edge?

Somehow have my doubts on the brand name working it's charm on this one.

this looks like a rejected design brought to production thinking that indians will buy anything which is value from money.i know some people will and thats what is making me sad.Toyotas although not very stylish always had a certain charm and class which these lack

If they plan to retail the sedan at 10 lakhs, they might as well not launch it here. This will become the successor th the Honda Jazz if they do so. It will just be sitting around in the showroom without any takers. Anything above 7-8 lakhs and they can kiss goodbye to this.

Talking 3 Idiots from Toyota!!!!!!!!!!

In Dec 09, Aamir Khan showcased 3 Idiots in Cinema Halls.....
......... and sequel to that, Toyota featured 3 Idiots for India at Auto Expo........
Idiot No. 1-----------Etios Hatchback
Idiot No. 2-----------Etios Sedan
Idiot No. 3-----------Prius (Hybrid).

Hats off to Toyota. Well done for such a quick sequel

Thanks Dippy for the pictures. The car is bound to look dated on Indian roads because of its styling and with premium pricing (i presume), I don't see many falling for it. I wonder who thought of the interior colour scheme; it sure is jarring. Reputation for reliability is not going to carry Toyota through in the small car segment.

Thank you Dippy for the images of the new car from the Toyota stable, but i will have to say this, this car with a price tag of 4.5 to 5 lakh and that too with a petrol engine is definitely not going to have any kind of tough competition with the other ones in this segment for sure.

Saw it yesterday at the Expo . IMHO the hatch is decent (maybe it was the Subaru blue colour scheme !) but the sedan does look dated. The dash is so ugly .
All in all it is dissapointing .
Hard core Toyota lovers would buy it but the rest might not be so easy to persuade .

The Etios looks alright in person....I don't have any complaints with the design. It was sufficiently wide and had a reasonable wheelbase. However, the resemblance to Renault is too obvious. And the interiors outright suck.

Toyota had better make serious amends before finalising the production version. In terms of retaining a Toyota (not Renault) look on the car and giving us better interiors. A "cheap" feeling car has substantially damaged Renault's brand equity in India. A "cheap" Etios could do the same for Toyota.

Not to forget, the Innova has minimal competition and the Altis only the Civic & Laura (direct petrol rivals). However, the hatch space is only getting more crowded with time. The VW Polo, Nissan Micra, Ford Figo are on their way. And the Hyundai i20 is the quality benchmark for the segment. Things are different at the lower end of the food chain, Toyota. Do your homework.

I thought that Etios has already that Toyota look that does not appeal to so many. I can live with the look so long as Toyota also retains what has made it so good for me.

For that matter, there was the Maruti 800 look and in the mid-1990s, one had a choice of buying a standard 800, an AC 800, or a Tatkal 800. Things have changed a lot since then, and with increased competition, looks can be a killer.

No point in expecting any wonders from TOYOTA.The sand under their feet will be removed by VW ,Fiat TATA together.Watch the gloomy faces of the Japs near the car. They claim that 2000 people behind the design for 2 yrs. Ridicullllous. Isn't it.

What we're looking at could very well be the new 'Taxi'! Move over Indica/Indigo/Logan, Toyota is here to show us the way!
