Brilliant pictures!! I guess the Sportback concept is the upcoming A7.
The rims on all the Audis look fantastic! Wasn't the R8 spyder or the R8 5.2 V10 shown at the expo?

A few relvant points from the Audi press release :
  • The Audi Q7 4.2 TDI will be introduced (Currently the most powerful diesel SUV on the market)
  • A limited edition Audi A6 2.7 TDI to celebrate 100 years of Audi
  • Production of the Audi Q5 in India will begin in 2010
  • Plans to launch an extended warranty programme

Default Sportback sensation

Rehaan,

Can't thank you enough for the pics from the Audi stall, especially the Sportback. For me, it is the car of the show ( I've only gone through the Bimmer and Mercs posts here though).

The Sportback is elegant, with very fine lines, and as you say, its detailing is faultless. If some one were to tell me that its a French car ( a Robert Opron design for instance) I would be taken in. It transcends 'national' styles. Of particular note are :

1. The fastback styling which is being adopted by almost all the higher end manufacturers ( Merc CL/CLS; Bimmer GT, Passat CC and so on) : hope rear head room is comfortable in the actual car as and when launched

2. The ORVM design, almost French in its sublime simplicity

3. The wood design and finish on the rear door handle and in the fascia near the ac vent and the dash at the front, simply superb

4. The headlamp design & the clean, horizontal lines on the boot and at the rear bottom

All in all, simple elegance. Hope the engines and transmissions are as breathtaking. Your post will propel me to research the Sportback thoroughly!

The rest of their product range is almost an anti-climax ( 'One could sense the changed atmosphere when he was not batting', ref. Wisden 1970, on Majid Khan, one of Wisden's Five Cricketers of the Year 1970)

Regards

Hi issigonis,

When i saw pictures before the show, i wasn't too impressed by the car, but when i saw it in person - i really did love it (especially the particular wood-grain used in the interiors of the display car).

Some more info from the press release :

"Power is provided by the world's cleanest diesel technology the 3.0-liter V6 TDI clean diesel almost completely eliminates nitrogen oxides. And numerous measures to ensure top efficiency mean that the Audi Sportback concept is expected to achieve impressive fuel consumption figures of 5.9 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers."

Default Sportback Concept

Thanks for all the pictures and write-ups for all of use who are unable to attend the expo in person. Of all the concepts on display, the Audi Sportback concept if defo my favourite and as already mentioned, the alloys on the A4 & A6 look stunning!

Rehaan,

I think if the 3.0 litre V6 TDI manages say a power output of 250 bhp and more importantly torque of 450 Nm, Audi can position it as a premium GT.
Additionally 7 speed DSG with paddle shifts ( atleast), (City, Highway, Sport and GT modes for suspension and power delivery), aluminium panels/space frame would add to its appeal.

Hope it sees the light of day very soon.

Regards

Say it all you like! From the responses here i'd say most seem to agree with you.

Its still a concept car - but given that Audi has a substantial spread of offerings right from the A4 to the R8 in India, i see no reason as to why the Sportback wouldn't be offered as well.

Thanks. This was corrected the next morning.

Especially from the rear 3/4th view this is true.

Unfortunately not! Though the day before we visited their stall we did see another (customer's?) R8 reversing out of the display area. Perhaps it was a stop-gap that was replaced with another car on day 2?

Hi, Any idea when in 2010 they will start manufacturing the Q5 here? I think it is supposed to be somewhere in the early this year.
