Default The "Discovery Turbo" thread - A 24 hour automotive channel now on Indian TV

Did a search on the forum but couldn't find anything on it.

Anyway, i was surfing through Tata Sky this morning looking out for any programmes related to automobiles when i saw 2 other Discovery Channels. One was called Discovery Science and the other Discovery Turbo.

The word "Turbo" caught my eye and i had to check it out first. What i saw was nothing short of a dream. This channel has only automotive related programmes 24hrs a day.

I had just missed something called "Twist the Throttle" when i switched on the TV, had it been any other channel, id have been disapointed but oh no...not here, not especially when the next programme is called "Redline TV"!!!

It also retains some of the renouwned shows like Fifth Gear, Overhaulin, American Chopper etc.

I dont see myself switching to any other channel after this. So those who haven't got it, please do it asap. You will not regret it.

On Tata Sky, its channel no. 221

Yes, I also came across this new channel today. Saw a review of S-class and a shootout between a Merc and a Jag. The programmes don't look too old and some of them are anchored by Top Gear presenters (Fifth Gear). Others are the ones already being aired on main Discovery and Travel & Living channels (Overhaulin, American Chopper etc). At last! One complete channel for auto programming.

My Cable is up from renewal.

Can someone tell me if this comes in the Tata Sky BASIC package?

Oh man, you beat me to the announcement, Shantanu! I caught this channel yesterday and went absolutely ballistic. 24 hours of cars, cars and more cars....it's a super development for Indian petrolheads. Just the other day, I was wondering how come we don't have speed tv in India (an American channel dedicated to cars). Used to watch it in the States. And here comes discovery turbo!

The content is indisputably superior to the rubbish that our desi car shows dish out. Sure, it's international coverage but hey, helps to keep our finger on the pulse of the global scene. Plus, seeing Tiff Needell and Vicky back on screen was amazing. Programming includes luxury car comparos, super cars, tech stuff, modifying cars and even offroading!

You missed the Gypsy show? The time that I sms'ed you, they were showing the transformation of a Gypsy. From the time that the dude bought it off ebay for 200 pounds till he took it offroading. Started the episode with a very interesting SWB example.

Note: I'm going to keep this common thread for all discussions on Discovery Turbo (shows, episodes etc.). It's the least we can do for a channel dedicated to cars. I hope it clicks, because that would ensure its sustainability in India (as also the entry of other channels).
