No, the Swift is not a fast car. It is an exercise in mediocrity like every other car on the streets and showrooms of India. A Swift Sport is a fast car, but because of the bodykit, not a sleeper. A 1.2l Swift can only be considered powerful if you have been driving Tata Indicas or tractors. A handful of manufacturers bring something in this country which has a hint of power, before it is discontinued and replaced with boring crap variants within a few years.

Most of the commodity turbocharged diesels being sold in this country have tiny turbos which spool at 2500 rpm and stay useful upto 3500 rpm. So you feel the "push" for those few seconds, but the car is a torture to drive on either side of that powerband.

One quick question.. Can Daewoo's cielo be considered a sleeper car? It looks very bland but what about its performance?

How about opel corsa sail?

I have owned a Cielo. The 0-100 time of 15+s is too slow to be called a sleeper. OHC, Accent, Corsa, Ikon, Lancer, Escort 1.6 and everything sold in the price range was faster except Escort 1.3 and 1.8.

Nexia had a more powerful DOHC 16v engine but still was not fast enough to be GENUINELY classified as a Sleeper.

I think Nexia variant was pretty fast, i guess it had ~100BHP with 16valve head.

How can a car with bodykit qualify as sleeper?
For Cedia i dont agree because:
1.Cedia is slower than Civic.
2.Cedia is slower than Octavia 1.8TPi.
3.Cedia is slower than Laura 1.8TSi
4.Cedia is slower than Cruze.
Whats left?
Cedia is slightly faster than Altis.

I thought of not posting in this thread - but...

I been driven in a 1.8 TPi Octavia Rider in stock form and then again with Pete's Phase II mods in the same car in Kolkata. All i can say is in the 1st case it was an Awesome experience and in the 2nd case, Scary. this is perhaps the only sleeper car i have experienced in person.

I love Rahulkool's handle pic - though i haven't been in that region in a similar car
