This is interesting when every other manufacturer was making so many sales maruti seems to have lost a bit here.
I would imagine the sales of Beat - 4.5 K, Polo: 5K, Figo:6K have put a hole of atleast 8-9 K in Maruti A2 numbers

FORD INDIA

(post courtesy member anu21v)

Carmaker Ford India today reported an over three-fold jump in its March sales at 9,478 units on the back of its newly-launched hatchback Figo getting a good response.
  • Figo has already over 10,000 bookings in the last four weeks, Ford India said in a statement.
  • The company had sold a total of 3,127 units in March 2009.
"In view of the market response to the Figo we will be ramping up its output by moving into a second shift of production at our Chennai facility though we have not finalised the time for it yet," Ford India Marketing Sales and Services Executive Director Nigel Wark told PTI.

The Chennai facility has a production capacity of one lakh units, which is now being increased to two lakh units as part of the company's $500-million investment plan. Besides, the facility also has a capacity of 2.5 lakh units of engines per annum.
  • Wark said there will not be any price hike on Figo and Ikon due the the new emission norms, but there will be marginal hike of 1-2 per cent in prices of SUV Endeavour and sedan Fiesta.
  • The company said all its models including the Ikon, Fiesta and Endeavour performed well during March.

10,000 Figos booked!!

Over 3100 sold, way to go ford! Beat, Figo and Polo are going to do great IMO. These are probably the future best sellers. Can't wait for the first real Japanese small car (non Maruti) , Nissan Micra!

Read it again. Those are sales of Fiesta, Ikon and Endy from last year. They must have sold at least 6K Figos in March because the other cars generally hover around 3K to 3.5K units a month.

my bad, I just read it as a single line, assuming 3100 Figos sold and others to be delivered in the next few months.

Wow.. selling more than 6000 cars of a single model could very well put Figo in the sales of Top 10 name plates in India . I am sure even Ford India would have been surprised by the demand which i am sure has resulted in some long waiting periods. Ford has just started a new innings in India and wish it be a long one.

This is wonderful news for ford but what about the dealer network for ford? They are no where as good as maruti or Hyundai.

If the dealer network don't improve then ford would have to face the wrath of over 10,000 angry figo customers.

Ford has posted on its website about opening 28 new dealerships in a day. I am sure they are working hard to keep up with their Cousin (GM) and the likes of Toyota and Honda.

Fiat again doesnt give a breakup of the model sales.

Wonder why Cruze has not picked up.

Jaguar Land Rover 242 units?

And Grand Vitara + Gypsy = 677. So does it mean Vitara is finally doing well?

Hyundai sales is depending a lot on the a2 segment, all its other cars are performing badly.

With figo numbers out, everyone will now be waiting for the Polo sales figures.
