At present they are giving BS-3 and they have BS-4 on offering from April 2010 onwards.

I think this is a very good move by Fiat. One of the major issues with the 1.4 was the fact that it didnt give very good mileage. So going in with a slightly modified 1.2 is a great idea as it drops the prices and helps with the mileage.

Having driven the new 1.4, I have to say that it is an engine more suited to the italian driving style, where people keep their foot mashed to the floorboard more often than not. Thus the concentration of power at the higher revs is not a problem. Keep the engine over 3500rpm and she is great. But that means u have to make do with 10 or at best 11kpl.

Hope Fiat get a head start on VW by introducing the 1.4 Tjet- which will give about 105-110bhp in Indian conditions or may be even their Multiair engines that come with the Punto Evo.

Who said so?
So, people from other races are genetically devoid of a heavy right foot?

I think Fiat should bring 1.2 Multi air Petrol engine and generate some sale.I think this move is forced by VW polo which directly competes with Punto 1.2 now.

The 1.2 engine will soon be replaced by a 900cc 2 cylinder multi air engine, which comaes normally aspirated as well as turbo charged.

In Europe they had the 1.2 as a 16v, which was replaced by the 1.4 8v ()about same power and the 1.4 16v.

The new 1.4 16v engine will be the only FIRE engine remaining in the long run and will feature muti air technology.

The T-Jet will be gradually phased out and replaced by the Multi air T-jet (is already in the Alfa Mito).

I read somewhere that TSI of VW is better than Multi air? Is it true

With hatch segment on fire after Figo, beat pricing the 1.2 prices of Punto still seems to be on higher side

i still believe the "tank" like Punto need better engine or tuning. Current 1.2 struggles to pull the Punto.

To the question regarding the availability of BS 4 variant- the car has started arriving at the dealerships and just has a retuned exhaust system to cut emissions and improve mileage.

All the prices mentioned are correct, courtesy Delhi tata Fiat dealers.

I drove a similar sibling-the 1.2 FIRE equipped Vista, and found it t be surprisingly competitive in terms of bottom end performance. At 4th gear at 20-30 kmph, there were no jerks. though highway performance could be better.

Default New variants for grande punto. (1.2L engine powered)

fiat India will launch two new variants of the Grande Punto on the 15th of this month. The new Dynamic and Emotion variants will now be offered on the base petrol version, the 1.2L FIRE. The new variants will give Grande Punto buyers more choice in the ever growing small car market.

source :motorbeam.

i think this is a good move. IMO, the 1.4 is not as fuel efficient as the 1.2L and this gives them some room to fill the gap and reduce the prices. in other words you can get the fully loaded punto for lesser price as you will have to pay less since the engine is 1.2L. and this will be nice for general public who just want's fuel efficiency, refinement and decent city driving capabilities. the 1.2L has the lower end grunt and is great for the city.

Driveability will definitely suffer.
Even with the 1.4, the car was slightly sluggish.
However, a thread for the same exists.

Why can't FIAT have JV for K-series or any petrol Eng. with M.suzuki?
Use the 1.2L for Punto & 1.5L VVT for Linea.
Viola look at the sales figures of Punto.

Just my two cents.
