For some strange reason i am unable to download the excel sheet attached using my Safari browser. It downloads it but saves it as a HTML page which opens to some garbage. Can someone please upload the entire sheet as an image?

Ah, if you are frustrated with that 'typo' or whatever it maybe, have a look at the glitches here. This is the website of the Kolkata Skoda dealer.

Thanks mate. It seems they've hiked the ex-showroom price for Laura (elegance AT) by 80000 rupees with the new CRDI engine.

Hi guys,

Has any one have an idea as to when the new Skoda Octavia model is coming to India ? I saw few pictures of the new version of Octavia and it looks fabulous..!!! I read somewhere that its going to be by December of this year..is it so ?

Is the launch of the new Octavia going follow the marketing strategy of "India first" and rest of the world later ?

Is the TDI engine better than the old CRDI engine in Skoda ? ( i think the old Skoda had CRDI engine, feel free to correct me)

Does the Fuel efficiency and power output go up with the TDI engine ?

@ Behemoth..how is the After sales service from Skoda now ? has it improved in the last year as Skoda claim ?

Hi Turbo car,
No actually the TDI the engines are the ones with crdi and started from the 1.9TDI version. Now they are with 2.0 TDI. The earlier Octavia came with PD or pump deuse which had separate high pressure pumps for each cylinder. The common rail uses only one high pressure pump and distributes the fuel through the common rail.
The TDI engines are less noisy, more fuel efficient and also more responsive and less polluting than the predecessor PD engines.
Skoda service and attitude has improved drastically and we have seen the change. They also honor many out of warranty goodwill claims these days.
Be sure to take the extended warranty as parts on all European cars are expensive.
Regards
Behemoth

^ VW, Audi, Skoda have been using TDI name for long. Even older DI Turbo and PD engines were called TDI and this continues with the newer CR engines.

The Octavia in India did not have a pump deuse engine, it was a normal turbo diesel. The pump deuse first came in the Laura, with the 1.9 pd with 105bhp. Pump deuse engines had very good low end torque, but they were less refined than common rain engines.

Disagree as per my memory. Look at the slightly later gen Octy's which for a while were selling side by side with the early Laura's here in India. Approximately 2005-2006 vintage.
Those did have TDi PD engines. 1.9 litre capacity.

Actually Shankar, Akshay is right. The Octavia had a 1.9L engine turbo charged but no Pd or CRDI. Regular indirect injection. It was 90BHP.

The Laura came with 1.9L PD engine which bumped the power to 110BHP. A 2.0L PD engine was introduced in the Superb and Passat with 140BHP. The Laura engine was then changed to 2.0L CRDI with 110BHP. The Superb PD changed to CRDI but same 140BHP. The facelift Passat 2.0L changed to 170BHP CRDI.

PD was VW/Skoda technology for CRDI but it was not as good as CRDI. NVH levels were higher and power delivery was peaky.

PS: With this post I just realised that I have driven every incarnation of Laura, Passat, Jetta, Superb and Octavia.

Did I make a mistake?

Those days the Octy diesel was the benchmark. Only other choice was Lancer 2.0, Astra 1.7 and Escort.

I'm nitpicking, I'm reasonably sure it was 105bhp, the 110bhp is the 2.0 tdi.
