Does it mean an Octavia that is going to be the replacement of Laura? Anyway, the Rapid is there for a good market!

Octavia is called Laura in India, rebadged for our country. With next gen, it might get it's original name back again.

More detailed discussion on this can be found in this thread: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/intern...concept-4.html (European Skoda Rapid Spotted; All new car based on Mission L concept)

In a manner of speaking, yes. Like Behemoth has correctly said, the Laura brand name does not exist in Skoda's global portfolio. It was born out of an India-specific requirement which was having to discontinue production of the earlier gen Octavia owing to its non-compliance with the BS IV emission norms. Ergo the brand name Laura came into being in our country. The Laura as we know it in India is still sold as the Octavia II (facelift) in other markets.

There have been wide-ranging reports that the Octavia will be pegged below the current pricing levels of the Laura in order to bridge the substantial dollar gap between the latter and the Rapid. Not to mention, boost sales. I seriously doubt that; considering Skoda has always positioned the Octavia as a luxury sedan globally. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Skoda India boss Thomas Kuehl has expressed interest in bringing back the Octavia nameplate to India.

3) Is the Octavia nameplate coming back?
Yes, the Octavia brand is a very important for Skoda India. All our existing Octavia customers are very satisfied with their cars. We will definitely want to use the brand in the future. It is too early to talk but we will definitely see the Octavia nameplate coming back to India.

7) Why does the European Rapid look different from the Indian one?
The Rapid is a sedan that will be customized according to market requirements. India is the first country in which Skoda launched the Rapid. But it will be also launched in Russia, China, Europe and they will be customized for each markets.

The European Skoda Rapid will be the first car to feature all the elements of Mission L design philosophy. It will be fresh and new. The European version will have a different configuration to the Indian one. We are also analyzing the potential of the European Rapid in India.

I think that next gen Octavia based in MQB will be brought in India as Octavia and Laura nameplate will be accorded to european rapid if it actually gets launched in India.
