I very much doubt if these cars will ever ply on the Indian roads. These are purely for export only. So lets not get all happy that we would be getting better built models. MSIL will be in no mood for letting VW increase its share in the Indian market.
I am sure the Nissan Pixo would be much better built than the A-Star that we get. If the case was so simple Nissan would have simply gone ahead & launched it in the Indian market instead of taking all the pains in launching the Micra.
Most auto manufacturers, including Indians, take us for granted. Just look at the ABS model of Indica Vista, both Indian & export model. Unfortunately the same exists in almost every product in this country.

Maruti has a faaaaar bigger brand name than VW in India.
Perhaps this move is just for the export market ?

The Ritz is already sold in Europe as the Opel Agila. How will VW sell it?

I dont know what its surprising to so many guys here, Suzuki is famous world over for making good small cars & its not the first time that a Suzuki Product will get sold under another brand's logo.

Why Wagon R & Ritz? well because VW probably doesn't have similar cars in its profile which can bring in volumes in that segment.

VW would surely not launch them in India, even if they get specked better who would buy a high Priced Maruti?

So I think this move was on expected lines, else what benefit would VW get by acquiring stakes in Suzuki?

Yes, both Wagan-R (old Opel Agila) and Splash (Ritz) were/are sold as Opel cars. Next Gen Agila wont be re-badged Suzuki.

So WV taking this in not a news. Filling up for Opel?

Also, I dont think these will be sold in India.

I personally find this development mind boggling . I dont see how Japanese/Indian technology and styling principles can directly be adopted by a German Manufacturer and yet still gain respect for it.
The old WagonR (3rd gen I believe) is already being sold in Europe as Opel /Vauxhall. Some minor changes are done so that it doesn't look like an exact copy of the Suzuki WagonR but it's basically the same car. The changes are something like what they did when they launched the WagonR here as opposed to what it look like in the JDM. In Europe VW is not a premium brand, hence I guess they will be happy with whatever respect they get.

It could mean two things. Either they just use the platform and eveything else is new or they take the entire car and just give it a facelift and boot job so that it doesn't look like a Suzuki product. It might not be German engineering but it would be way more reliable than what you get when you pay for a much more costly Skoda.

Even the SX4 platform is used globally by other car manufacturers.

An extreem take on the news could be a Ritz modified to build an Audi A1/A0 series product. Even Audi is VW stable. How about that.

Guys, cool down please, no where it mentions that India gets these cars as VW cars!! It is just that these cars will be exported as VW cars. Where does it mention that India gets these cars as VW cars?

+1 to that. This strategy would hold good for the overseas market not India for sure. Whats the big fun in driving a Maruti with a VW logo unless of course there is more to it than mere re-badging and minor spec change ?

VolksWagen WagonR sounds weird to pronounce.

Thumbs up All Good for us!

I for one like Auto giants coming together for better synergies.

This is how Suzuki got the awesome MJD through GM from Fiat.

So things of wonderment have happened in the Auto industry in the past.

Now, where is that Polo with the K12M engine that I need to buy?

Both WagonR and Ritz were sold as the Opel Agila (old and new) in Germany and other parts of Europe.

Has always been well accepted so nothing new here.

IMO this would be in other markets, and not in India. VW would be crazy to tinker with the MSIL success and bring it down. VW is still getting on its feet in India, despite the backing of world dominance. This could be an intersting turn of events.

Well, opel is german and they sell the Agila - which is actually a ritz! I guess VW will opt for a similar route!
