It would have been good if VW had shared the diesel for high capacity engines. Then we would have seen a 1.6L CRDI for SX4, as the one in Vento!

But I am not sure if the deal is limited only to small cars.

I checked the pics on google. very surprised to see this. GM and suzuki as far as my knowledge goes are rival comapnies. I can understand engine sharing to an extent. Rebadging the same car between competetiors is a capitalist idea beyond me.

GM holds stake in Suzuki.

What a joke.

Let VW concentrate in getting their act together in India.

The kind of race they are in, the whole GERMAN Charm is already lost after the First Gen Passat went.

The kind of fit and finesse of a Volkswagen is not what i am used to seeing from the worlds biggest Auto manufacturer. Take the kind of cars they sell, nothing looks like its build to last.

And VW using Maruti expertise in making small cars, Maruti are known to make the smallest of cars for a big price.

VW India + MSIL makes a great pair- We all will get used to buy cars with low build quality and be happy over the service network adn brand image rather than Value For Money

Volkswagen is evolving backwards

Suzuki image will surely get a boost as its cars will now sport badges of premium brands like VW and Skoda.

Maruti making small cars with big price? This is the biggest joke!

Actually, Maruti are making smallest cars with small price. Even Chevrolet do that in India. It's none other than Hyundai that makes small cars with big prices in India!

On the other hand, VW's image from being a Auto Manufacturer with Class will turn to become a Mass manufacturing Automobile maker.

We can live with it anyways. Makes no difference now

Bye bye Quality VW's......................

Lets not go

I am sorry for doing this, but since this thread calls for a debate, lets stick to it.

Can we live with accepting facts please.

We all love Maruti, but better cars have arrived.

But for your reference, simple examples.

Hyundai's i10 AT which is spacious is priced much lesser than the CLAUSTROPHOBIC A-Star AT.

Chevy Spark which is much more spacious and better refined than the MSIL's Cramped Alto is priced a few more thousands than the spark.

Is that sufficient or you need some more references.

Toyota - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Correction , The worlds largest Automaker is Toyota.

VW's were always built to last but not to last in Indian conditions.
Modern day VW's are unreliable and expensive to repair. The other day my friends brand new polo (<1000kms) broke down during a trip to ooty from Bangalore. If any thing is to be gained from this partnership it has to be VW from Maruti suzuki. Maybe Maruti/Suzuki can show VW a thing or two on building reliable cars.

Is it? Really?

A-Star AT Delhi ex-showroom: Rs 4,36,000/-
i10 Sportz AT Delhi ex-showroom: 5,05,000/-

That's a huge difference of approximately Rs 70,000/-!

Ritz 1.2 LXi Delhi ex-showroom: Rs 4,00,000/-
Swift 1.2 LXi Delhi ex-showroom: Rs 4,07,000/-
i10 1.2 Magna Delhi ex-showroom: 4,19,000/-

i10, which is a wimp compared to Swift and Ritz IMO and in a segment lower than them, is priced way higher than these cars!

Now you do the calculations and predictions.

What we tend to forget is that VW (car for the people) started with Beetle the original "peoples car" and had the same image as our Maruti for quite some time. It is only recently that we associate VW with upmarket products, but they were always low cost high volume players.

I somehow have a feeling that that discussion is going baseless as the news is not confirmed. Just one source do not make sure something like this is happening.

Morever, note that Suzuki is not the first brand the VW has acquired, there are other brands like
Škoda, SEAT, Audi, Bentley, Bugatti and Lamborghini which are under the VW umbrella orgranization. When VW has not thought of rebranding them, I am sure it wont do for the Suzuki. Thats why I am saying the whole discussion is heading nowhere. Let us not discuss about something VW has not thought of till now.
