I second that, consider this.
Given that Figo sells for around 5k p.m for some months, that sets up a great platform for the Global Fiesta launch, I mean already people would have been thier mind set by seeing many Figos on the road so one would not mind going for a higher grade Ford vehicle.

Imagine how the mind set would have been had Figo not been launched at all. People would be thinking bad about Ford and refraining from buying it, now after Figo launch its a different ball game altogether

Its time you check this thread

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/long-t...-must-dos.html

I previously had a Zen. Each service (at 6 months interval) will be minimum 2.5 - 3K. Compare this with the facts laluks had put in his thread.

But then don't just ride on the fact that all modern day cars are that perfect. Problems can arise due to totally unexpected issues. For eg: Breaking of belt, radiator hose or something like that. Yeah in most cases it starts after the car is atleast 5-6 yrs old. Till then most cars do fine even otherwise! But then, once you face a problem onroad the next thing is a workshop and a spare -> for both Maruti scores!!! For even a Honda/Toyota spare you may need to catch a bus and go to the nearest city, but not for Maruti. And that is why Swift's and Dzires rule, not just the worthiness of the car, its all about being with Maruti => feel safe!
That is absolutely true. The biggest department responsible for the 50-55% market share of maruti is the service network. Name any location and there is bound to be a service centre nearby. I also remember the wonderful ads Maruti used to have regarding their service departments.....awsome.

2.5-3K every 6 months is ridiculous. I myself have a zen (1997) and I service it every 12 months. Comes out arnd 3.5-4K. have clocked 1.7L km. No engine overhaul. The only parts needing replacement till now is clutch (twice), driveshaft, wiper & dipper controls besides the regular stuffs. There is a slight drop in pick up after 1.5L km....or else it runs pretty well.

Now thats reliability and peace of mind. Spares inexpensive as well. (Cant comment on higher segments)

Talking about honda the above thread does not show the cost of replacing any item such as windshield, suspension, alternator or even a side view mirror. There you can get the difference.

Off topic! But I would say that regular maintenance charges are more or less same for all modern vehicles. Some manufacturers have every 6 months visit. I say, that is rubbish. They simply want to charge the washing and checkup charges. So, visit once in a year or 10000 Km. Adjust the time for other parts to be replaced to sync with this. The cost will come more or less same for all vehicles. If the vehicle is not good enough to stretch for this one year or 10000, it is not worth calling even modern car.

Some cars need higher quality parts, such as high grade engine oil, or filter or blah blah. That difference is hardly of any significance when we compare with the fuel cost and insurance cost between the services. I mean, if some one spends 60K per annum for the fuel and insurance, it hardly matters if the service cost 2,500 or 4,500 per annum. Difference is hardly 4% to the annual ownership cost. All debates on this are useless.

More than the cost, I would rather value if I don't have to visit the service every six months.

Astar is the poorest performer in the MUL stables @2724. Wonder what strategy MUL will adopt for Astar when numbers dip below 2k mark!

But AFAIR A-star is also exported by MSIL! So if its not selling well in India, discontinue A-strat and produce them for export only i guess! now with introduction of new Wagon-R, A-start number will surely go down IMO!

I guess they should chop off the rear doors of Astar and market it as a niche vehicle and cool ride for the young guns - they anyway make 3 door variants (2 doors + hatch)

Hyundai's domestic sales up 16 per cent

Source : EconomicTimes.com

Quote:
NEW DELHI: The country's second largest carmaker, Hyundai Motor India, on Tuesday reported an increase of 15.52 per cent in domestic sales for May at 27,151 units. The company had sold 23,503 units in the domestic market in May 2009, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) said in a statement.
Total sales in May increased 7.30 per cent to 46,808 units from 43,624 units in the same month last year.
HMIL, which is also the country's largest car exporter, however, saw its exports slide by 2.31 per cent in the month.
The company sold 19,657 units in overseas markets in May compared to 20,121 units in the year-ago period.
"Although the market continues to grow, we were constrained by our planned annual maintenance shutdown (at the Chennai plants) this month which restricted our numbers as we had to divert our export production to meet the demand for the domestic market," HMIL Director (Marketing and Sales) Arvind Saxena said.
He said the demand for the company's i20 model has continued to grow by around 35 per cent monthly.

In the A2 segment (Santro, i10, i20 and Getz Prime), the company sold 42,460 units in May, while in the A3 segment (Accent and Verna) sales were at 4,310 units.
In the A4 segment (Elantra), the company sold one unit last month. The A5 segment (Sonata Transform) of HMIL witnessed sales of 37 units, while its SUV Tucson had no buyers in May

GM India's May 2010 sales grow by 61%

Quote:
NEW DELHI: General Motors India has registered an impressive growth of 61% in sales in May 2010, compared to the corresponding period last year. It
sold 8,225 units in May 2010 against 5,109 units in May last year.
The May 2010 sales comprise of 2,812 units of the Chevrolet Spark, 2,296 units of Chevrolet Beat, 1,418 units of the Chevrolet Tavera, 854 units of the Cruze, 396 Units of Chevrolet Aveo, 312 units of Chevrolet Aveo U-VA, 84 units of the Chevrolet Captiva and 53 units of Chevrolet Optra
This is disappointing for GM as they are down to 8K from 10-11K they touched in Jan-April.

April May
Spark 3507 2812
Beat 3852 2296
Cruze 692 854
Tavera 1529 1418
Aveo 315 396
U-VA 529 312
Captiva 115 84
Optra 62 53

Looks like beat and spark are loosing out to the competition. I guess it is FIGO effect
