Default New Engine options coming for C-Class.

According to the ACI website the Mercedes C-Class will now have two new engine options to choose from, A 1796cc 183bhp CGI petrol and the 201bhp 250 CDI diesel engine from the E250 CDI. This is the first time Mercedes will offer a turbo-charged direct-injection CGI engine in India. The C200 CGI will only be available in the Avantgarde trim. The 250 CDI makes huge 51Kgm torque.

Mercedes came up with a cheaper C-Class to counter the BMW 320d, now after the launch of the BMW 330i they are coming up with a CGI engine. I feel Mercedes is worried after huge success of corporate edition.

High-tech CGI Petrol

Mercedes-Benz is set to launch its new-generation direct injection (CGI) petrol motor on the 13th of this month. The turbo-charged direct-injection petrol motor that displaces 1796cc will be the first Mercedes that uses a CGI motor in India.
Unlike other direct injection petrol engines, however, this one has a vital advantage; it can run a genuine lean burn cycle. What this means is that when the motor is not under heavy load, it needs very little fuel to run. The mixture of fuel and air in the cylinder, normally 14 parts of air to one part of fuel, is reduced to a much lower ratio. As a result, the motor runs more efficiently.
Introduction of CGI will mean an increase in power to 183bhp as well as improved efficiency. Like other direct-injection motors from Audi and Skoda, low engine speed torque is significantly improved on this motor, delivering better acceleration and pulling to the C-class. Its Piezo injectors can manage multiple injections, just like a modern common-rail diesel. The C-class can run in lean burn mode as high as 120kph, with efficiency up a claimed 10 percent. The C200 CGI will only be available in the Avantgarde trim variant retailing at Rs 34.57 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Massive diesel torque

Merc is introducing its compact and a more powerful twin-turbo inline four this July. The C will now be powered by the 250 CDI motor, the same as on the E-class, taking power upto 201bhp and a huge 51kgm of torque.
The twin sequential turbos used on this engine are not identical, however. Engineers have used a combination of a small and large turbo, placed in series, to deliver the best of both worlds. The smaller turbo is used to deliver high pressure boost and the larger one takes care of low pressure induction.
At low speeds, a bypass duct in the high pressure turbo allows only the low pressure turbine to be spun. But as soon as higher speeds are reached, both work together for greater boost and performance.
