Default New sedan from Hyundai headed to India

Saw an atricle in the newspaper today. Hyundai Verna is supposedly coming to India by June 06 and is expected to be positioned between Accent and Elantra.

Its supposed to be priced between 7.5 L and 9 L .

I also heard that the facelifted Accent is to be launched sometime mid next year .

Seems we are going to have 2 new Hyundai cars soon.

This C / C+ segment is really hotting up ... with the NNHC , Fiesta and now the Verna .

So they will sell the old Accent as well as the new Accent (with a new name) ?
Pretty sneaky of them but makes some business sense..But it will be stupid unless it has different engine/trim options than the current Accent.

Also in the same article metallica, they said a new luxury sedan "Grandeur" will be launched too....who comes up with such silly names though.

Personally, something that is more exciting than the newly launched sedan is the fact that their export market is growing rapidly. Something that the people at Maruti/Suzuki have not been able to do well. The same goes with other Japs, and american manufacturers. It is great to see Hyundai capitalize on our manufacturing capabilities.

Heard today on CNBC about the 2 new launches planned... One will be the Verna around the 2nd quarter of 2006 and the second one is towards the starting of 2007 which is a diesel hatchback that would be placed against Indica and the diesel Swift...

In Goa you get free insurance, central locking and MP3 stereo, plus some cash disc, hinted to me by dealer but I was not too interested to continue nego.

Verna would be the new 2006 Accent . would be great if Fiat too brings in their newer cars.

At first glance, it looked very similar to a Kia Spectra to me. And it feels a bit smaller than the current one atleast from its appearance.

The looks are disappointing, to say the least. After the Sonata Embera one would've thought they've decided to do away with the toothy Korean grilles but its back with a vengence on this vehicle. Am sure the Indian version will come with a different grille.

It would also be a huge let down if Hyundai were to sell the old and the new versions side by side - that is nto what I have come to expect from that company. One can only presume that this is probably because they want to produce the new car in India primarily for export, since they seem to be doing phenomenally well on that front with both the old Accent and the Getz. In fact their exports are probably on par with their domestic sales - at least for the Accent.

Engine sounds good and hopefully it should surprise a few people like the Embera has done. However the interiors are definitely C Segment and NOT D minus.

I'm still hoping that the new model will replace the old one and not complement it.
