Yes, the Baleno is poised to take a beating. Unless MUL drops Baleno prices again. LXi for 5.5 exshowroom, VXi for 6.2 ... even then they'll get run over. I guess they are aware of this and hence are focussing on the BEEEEEEG Esteeem !!
Yes they are OTR after Discounts and all. The prices are valid till this week before the next maruthi scheme (thats what the sales guys say).

Also made the edition in the post itself

yeah right !!!

can anyone venture an educated guess as to what will happen to the Ikon Flair pricing in the midst of all this blood letting ?
I dont know abt blore but here in Hyd it was possible to get the Baleno Lxi OTR for around Rs 5.75 lakhs....(not ex showroom...but OTR)...till July...lost track of prices after that..
do we believe that a 1100 kg + fiesta with 82bhp will be competition for 94 bhp 975 kg Baleno...specially for those who like power?

I don't think so.

The Baleno was easily available between 5.45-5.55 lakh OTR for the Lxi model in both Delhi and Chd until very recently.(After which i have stopped monitoring the prices..Trouble with Maruti is that they always have huge discounts+free insurance for their cars.. So OTR becomes equal or less than Exshowroom in some states where there is no lifetime tax etc..)

That's why i said that the Fiesta would gun for the NHC and the Optra. Especially the NHC with it's lowest City Zx model being 6.7x L exshowroom delhi.

It makes sense bcoz NHC sells the most and it would take some doing to dislodge it from the top and would obviously entail huge rewards for the conquerer.

DZxi has ABS etc. Diesel comes with an option for ABS at 30k extra.
I think you mixed up the prices of sxi and zxi.

Anyways its really funny. Our prices are hugely different.
I got my prices from Metro (fardeen( as well as Cavery (santhosh). I have put up the lowest. the difference anyways was only about thousand odd rupees (perhaps Handling costs).

1.4 Petrol EXI- 6,29,000/- 645000 (thats a huge difference)
1.4 Diesel- 8,05,000/- 806000
1.6 PetrolZXI- 7,20,756/- 724000
1.6 PetrolSxi- 7,60,854/- 794000 ( thats a huge difference)

yeah, it's 6L OTR @Kolkata pre-nego .. and MUL dealer is willing to nego further (this is as of today)

For people who like power, the equation is:
LXi@6L or less OTR, Fiesta 1.6ZXi@approx 7L OTR

But then, if the Fiesta ZXi has alloys, keyless entry, MP3 audio and other 'Baleno VXi' features included, then it'll be a lot more competitive.

Mods - Please change the subject of the thread , since the diesel is not priced at 5.8L

I got a Baleno Vxi at 6.55 lakhs OTR Sept. end in Goa. Does the Fiesta 1.6 with comparable levels of trim come close to this? Any info on what are the trim levels for various flavours of the Fiesta?

Prices were provided by Metro Ford (Vijay) about 30 mins ago. When I called them up to confirm now, they say they haven't received the price list as yet.
They also said they have 70 payments already. They havent even got a test drive car!

If the ZXi badging indicates features similar to what was offered in the Ikon, then the Fiesta ZXi @6.29 should be able to match the Baleno VXi trim levels .. alloys, MP3 etc .. Add insurance etc, the Fiesta would be around 7L ..
The Baleno's USP seems to have been neutralised.

I don't think the prices are all that competitive.. the fiesta is based on the same ikon chassis with a different drive train, interior and exterior.. Now if the Petrol EXI had a 1.6l engine, that will be sensible pricing. Any way the 1.4 engine indicates a Hatch in pipeline some where in near future....

though you are right in terms of probablity and doability, i doubt if FORD will enter the hatchback segment in india anytime soon.

hatchbacks are still predominantly bought by people on a budget (which is why maruti and hyundai do so well) and are looking for fuel economy and low running costs. i seriously doubt if FORD can satisfy these requirements viz; low entry point into the brand and low running costs.

Post Check this out

http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/...ow/1295698.cms

Man at these prices, Fiesta is going the swift way in C segment.
And I think Baleno is going to take the biggest hit after Accent CRDI.

I'm not sure if Hyundai has anything to fear from Ford's diesel. FWIW, the Accent CRDi is already cheaper(7.8x otr ), more powerful, and no slouch in the FE dept either. Its the petrols that might have a problem.

Infact they did enter the hatch segment; Fusion

On a more serious note, Ford's pricing, though not very competitive for the reasons suggested by solly, is much better as compared to what they did to fusion.

Now they should plonk fiesta's dsl engine into the fusion and start selling it at a more competitive price. i am sure there will be takers for fusion then.
