The sales person told us that if the vehicle is registered elsewhere then it would be an issue while paying taxes/insurance and if at all the vehicle meets with an accident.

There will be no issues as long as the other address that is used for registration is genuine. If it's fake, then yeah, there will be issues especially if there is an investigation by the cops after an accident.

As Gilead posted, no issue as long as the address is genuine. As an example, I have a house in Nasik (non BSIV city) which I can use for the registration of a BSIII car, and then drive around in Bombay. Cops don't bother with non-Mumbai cars as long as the plate starts with an "MH" (i.e. same state).

3 of the 4 cars I drive have been discontinued and I don't have a problem with that at all! Actually, till this January (before I sold the OHC), all the cars from my garage were discontinued models. Big deal!! As long as you like your cars, and they meet your needs / wants the best...

I did realise that its a strategic move and not something they were forced to do. I wrote that in response to another post where someone said that the engine was no longer capable of meeting new norms.

It was never mentioned officially as being discontinued, right? Just that not being upgraded to meet the BS4 norms meant it couldnt be sold in the metros.

If they have to discontinue it, they would have to do the same for Fiesta TDCi/Figo.

That is correct. You can still register it in BS3 areas (if you have address proof) and drive it in metros.

The Fiesta and Figo TDCis are BS4 compliant. The Ikon TDCi is not. They achieved BS4 compliance for the other two by tweaking the cat con and adding a DPF.

Messaged IKON to 56263 and got a call from Ford, Chennai.
Ikon is still available and on sale. It is not on sale in Hyderabad due to the BSIV norms but in nearby towns like, Guntur, Vijaywada, Vizag,Nellore, etc, it is on sale.
Price ex-showroom of TDCI Ikon is 5.62 lakhs and of Petrol Ikon is 5 lakhs.

The Ford dealer here in Siliguri W.B (a BSIII city) is not only still selling the Ikon but he had displayed the car at the center of the showroom with the Figo and the Endeavour on its right and left. So atleast one dealer in India is making some effort to still sell the car .

But I guess the end is inevitable since Ford has not even bothered to make the minute changes that is required to make this car BSIV compliant. The positive to come out of this demise I guess will be the fact that the current Fiesta will be taking its place once the new Fiesta enters the Indian market. But somehow I seriously doubt that Ford will be able to come anywhere near the mouth watering 5.65L ex-showroom price of the TdCi Ikon. So overall I would say it will be a loss to the motor buying public.

Personally, if I had been in the market looking for an entry lever diesel sedan in the last 2 years, I would have absolutely picked the Ikon TdCi over the Maruti Desire, Tata Manza, and the Mahindra Logan.

Happy motoring.

i heard it from my cousin that ford is going to stop ikon as that plant is not profitable, but looking at the posts here it doesnt seem so true.
ford is known around the world for discontinuing cars in short period, so no wonder they discontinue ikon which is there in the market more than a decade if i'm not mistaken.
As far as spare parts are concerned engine and gearbox are still continued in the figo so shouldnt be a problem.
@amrisharm even the ikon use to sell at a much higher price before so in future expect the old fiesta's price to come to the similar range.
if at they launch the new fiesta and continue the older version will both bear the same name?

Inevitable, but sad!

Looking forward to the cut-price fiesta (classic). Hopefully, it will retain the 1.6 petrol mill! Can take the fight to etios and dzire with better pricing!

However, i wonder where these guys get their info from!

In 2005, the company discontinued its 1.7-litre diesel engine and 1.6-litre Rocam petrol model, while offering the 1.3-litre Rocam model in BS-III cities and continued with its 1.3-litre push-rod petrol model in BS-II cities.

BSM is right on their part. The 1.3 endura-E was offered in BS-2 markets at fleet operators even after the introduction of the NXT models. The old car had orange turn indicators and was offered at 4.49 lakhs ex showroom. The old diesel was actually 1753 cc carried over from erstwhile escort with 60 hp. That old school IDI engine was known for reliability and excellent fuel efficiency.
