Fuel coming into contact with heat /spark/fire any which way can lead to fire hazard. Could be caused by fuel leaking from broken/ dislodged/cracked fuel lines or the fuel tank itself and a hot engine block, or a spark (could be from spark plug or friction of metals or friction of metal with road surface, loose battery contact etc).

Hilarious. On a serious note, the earlier posts clearly show instances of a MSIL car being involved in a Fire accident. One such being the Celerio.

A massive fire erupted yesterday afternoon in an open barren land adjacent to the street parking lot here in Jasola, New Delhi. The belief is that the fire started because someone threw a lit cigarette in the bushes. It took more than three hours for five fire brigades along with the fire management systems of office complexes like DLF, UPPAL's and Bani to control the fire.

The fire soon spread to the nearby street parking lot and engulfed many cars.

It might seem like a funny conspiracy theory, but believe me, it's not that far off from the truth as well. A person very 'close' to Maruti has told me a lot of the 'techniques' & protocols they follow.

Also, I believe it's common knowledge, & it's somewhere on the forum as well as a fact, that there were common practices to place a competitor car near the showroom of the car with a visual appearance that's is has had a breakdown. Most of the times it was dealers doing so, but you never know where the idea comes from.

Well the regular office-goer hardly has any choice. Either park in that "parking lot" or don't bring your car to work. These so called "parking lots" are mostly vacant plots being managed by local parking mafias. I pity the car owners, I mean imagine coming back to such state of your car at the end of the day.

The cause of the fire could be anything, it could be some miscreants too, one never knows.

I don't know why the ground is not wet, since fire fighter spread water for so many hours here. It would have been flush with water. But it all seems dry and clear.

Got these pics as a whatsapp forward. Probably this happened in Bannerghatta road, Bangalore. According to my friend, this was a case of radiator overheat, and the driver had got down with the hood open, to get some water. The car meanwhile burst in flames.

A father & son had a very lucky escape as their car caught fire on the go.

Looks a really bad one!

Apparently the vehicle was a... Maruti Baleno (I saw a report in TOI this morning)!! Yes you read right (although this link does not mention it).

This is the Baleno that was engulfed in fire near Kochi. A team from Maruti Suzuki Delhi is flying down to assess the cause of the fire.

Nissan India gave statement as to how the redi go incident occurred. It was a dealer car driven by driver.

There are 2 fire accidents in which the new Baleno involved, in this same page.

Any specific reasons for the fire in the car? And pray the driver should get well soon.

Edit: Just now noticed that both the posts have been by you - and both in Kochi? Aware of any findings from the Maruti Suzuki team who assessed the earlier fire in the Baleno?

Four persons got charred to death after the Maruti Alto car they were travelling in caught fire having rammed the divider on Outer Ring Road (ORR) here at Peddamberpet toll gate in the early hours of Monday.

Five friends from Warangal district started from Warangal to see off one of them, Bhaskar, an IT professional flying to Coimbatore, at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad. After sending off Bhaskar, four of them started for Warangal when the accident occurred around 4.45 a.m.

“It is not yet precisely known what triggered the accident yet but the car first hit the median on ORR before ramming the railing. Apparently, the petrol tank got burst and it caught fire,” Vanasthalipuram ACP V. Bhaskar told The Hindu. Four passengers, including the one driving the car, got burnt to death.

Spotted this on the highway.

- No human injuries reported (per the update at spot)
- Not sure of the cause but quite interesting that there were lots of sparks coming from the truck's cabin, reminding of how it happens while using sparklers during diwali.
- More and more onlookers gathering and trying to be close to the truck - Fire is not an easy thing to handle but people tend to go close !
- No fire extinguishers nearby.

Thinking aloud:

Would it make sense to implement water sprinklers throughout highways and basic training given to people so that they can spray water/foam to reduce the damage in such situations ? I know this might be too wishful thinking but an idea to explore.
