A pointless exercise. While they are at it, maybe the government could also consider star stickers for emissions, safety (a la Hyundai; looked plain silly, IMO), and performance (a la Windows). Perhaps also for looks. Then an average rating. And all in different colours. Car buying for noobs.!

Default Re: Cars will have stars to show fuel efficiency

^^^ might not be a pointless exercise IMHO, really. As it is ARAI fuel efficiency figures have nowadays been taken off the ARAI website, too. At least the star rating system is going to serve as a ready reckoner to the "aam junta".

The risk is, some great cars might get branded as a "Fuel Guzzler" despite being a safe, VFM investment. The cars getting 3* rating would stand to lose the maximum volumes in terms of sales as people would only want to buy 4* or 5* cars!

And yes, I totally agree with @SDP, safety needs to get its due in our country. But no policymaker is bothered on this! Safety features in India are mainly available for those who also must end up paying for (frivolous) features like steering mounted audio controls and one touch power windows... The list is long.

Default Upcoming vehicles to have star rating certifying fuel efficiency

Quote:
In the next six to seven months you don't need to go by claims made by vehicle dealers about mileage of each model of car or people movers.

Rather you can easily identify which vehicle gives you the maximum mileage while buying one since it will be mandatory for every manufacturer and importer to display tamper proof stickers mentioning star-ratings just like the ones you see on refrigerators

How will this be any different from the ARAI ratings that are currently used?
